November Purchases

In my experience, they are the easiest to find - in part because they were among the largest of the contracts. There seems to be one for sale somewhere in Canada, almost all the time. In addition to the original military contract rifles, Century Arms built up a bunch from parts and put them into beech stocks. This adds to the total number of 8mm FN-49s.

We were shooting a load of Gevelot 30-06 ammunition on Sunday - marked 7.62-FN49......in a 1943-made Springfield rifle.

NICE SAFN!

A post Revolution model too! Mine still has the Pre-Rev crown.

Is that the original Receiver cover? It has English numbers, and not Egyptian symbols like mine... Interesting.

To quote Goose. the FN 49 expert:

"Your rifle was not imported by Century - it was assembled by Century. Around 1955, long after completion of the FN-49 production contract, Egypt purchased from FN at least 1,500 spare receivers. Since this was after the abdication of King Farouk, the crown crest was not used and instead the receivers were marked with the Eagle of Saladin crest. Century purchased these spare receivers as part of the deal with Egypt for the remaining rifles and spare parts. Century then used the receivers to assemble functioning rifles using a combination of Egyptian contract spare parts and Belgian contract spares.

In the case of your rifle, you most likely have a stock that was originally installed on a Belgian contract .30-06 rifle. If you look at the inletting for the trigger guard, you will probably see a little gap in the wood on each side of the tg assembly. Having western numerals on your rear sight leaf indicates that either the leaf itself, or the entire receiver cover, was also from a Belgian contract rifle.

So, you don't have an original Egyptian contract rifle, but rather an approximation of one as assembled by Century. On the other hand, since there were only about 1,500 of these receivers made, they are relatively rare and I always recommend that an advanced FN-49 collector include an "Eagle" in their collection.

Nice rifle !!!!

FYI, here is the Century ad from 1988 for Eagle crested FN49s...

Not to nitpick, but that looks like a nice M1911.
Too long for a K11, unless you have really tall doors.

M1911 is 51.5" long
K11 is 43.6' long

You are right-it's M1911-51.5'' long

I was wondering myself what model is is actually. One of the guys at the table mentioned that it might be 96/11 model but looking at pictures on swissrifles.com I think it's 1911.

Odd thing-I slugged throat/chamber junction to determine size of lead slug to be used and throat size is .312 with no noticeable difference in bore wear all the way to the muzzle.
I was expecting something closer to .309 but not .312.I slugged it twice just to make sure.

Could be throat erosion. Did you slug it all the way to the muzzle?
Or just wait till you shoot it. Might not make a difference as it should taper to the muzzle

BTW: 96/11 would have a grafted on pistol grip. yours seems to be one piece, so that make it a M1911.

I slugged only throat/chamber joint. For casts this is only measurement I need to know.

As for the stock it is one piece wood,no grafts or any repairs at all.Just usual storage dings/dents/scratches :) I'm leaving it as is-it looks good.
