Don't fool yourself... The registry in Ottawa, where the firearms techs work still has a record. You were talking to the gals in miramici.

I know there were some threads about them not being reclassified and the paper work sitting there for months. Just wanted to let people know that it is happening. Whether someone has a list is irrelevant anymore. Just wanted to gloat a bit :)

How much does it cost to do something like this? And can you please provide info on the entire procedure?

With the storm, the cost (not including rifle) was about $600. I used dlask arms corp for the smith work. They were fast and very nice to deal with. The only slow poke was the cfc. Cheers

Edit; $600 was the cost for everything and dlask did it all.

Awesome, thanks for sharing the info. :)

About $900 for a NR stainless ACR barrel. Herron submits the paperwork to the RCMP and hopefully they reclassify it promptly. I was surprised when I called that it was finished. I was prepared to call and harass them until it was done.

You can find him on CGN in the Gunsmith section. I'd say that approximately, for a high quality barrel (Krieger), Cerakote and with a machined in flash hider you should expect to spend about $800-$1,000 and obviously less if you decide to go with say a Green Mountain barrel instead of the Krieger; still a good barrel, but it's not Krieger that's for sure. I would discuss the costs with Ian directly. He's a real nice guy to deal with and will answer all of your questions.

Once the new barrel is installed, Ian will start the verification process for you with the CFC (the folks in Ottawa, not the ones in Mirrimichi, NB). Once the verification process is complete, the firearm will be reclassified and will be transferred to the new owner, with all of the paperwork, emails and records destroyed.

I went with the Green Mountain barrel. Asked Herron about going with something better like Krieger and he said he has used green mountain for many half moa or better builds (not ACR's though). I am excited to get it back. I have a new rifle length hand guard, Geissele SSA-E, a stack of 50 BW mags and 2 moa micro ready to throw on it! All I need to figure out is what sling I am going to use.

They are no longer allowed to keep any information on a particular non-restricted firearm. So no, once they approve his non-res ACR and expire his restricted certificate, ALL records of it get deleted from the system, including personal emails.

This is the RCMP. They will find a way around it... I would bet good money there is still "department" emails regarding any and all of the reclassifications I have done. I know for a fact my pictures are used in the frt. Don't think even for a second there isn't ANY record, it's sitting on a hard drive some place.

Why don't you FOIP them then and prove it, rather than just trying to stir up paranoia.

I have in the past... This was before the fall of the registry. They had antique letters listed. Different, I know but antiques were being "removed" from the registry, yet an email trail remained. Why would they change things now?
