NR black rifle under $2000?

I highly suggest getting the new XCR with the keymod rail. The balance on this rifle with the lightweight barrel is unreal! It just started popping up on our side of the border.

I went with the CSA VZ58 and added a few things to it, bought four extra mags and still stayed under ~$1450. If I already had $2000 saved for another rifle, I would save a little more and go for the new XCR with the key mod.

well here's my .02 i have the sl8...at first liked it then thought hmm what did i buy!!!!! then i started to shoot it and shoot it some more.....and it started to grow on me....hell i love it .....this little toy is a lazer beam with factory ammo!!!!!amazingly accurate!!!! no bull####!!! coyotes out to 300 dead on the spot.....no kick just the best of german engineering!!!!!
only problem is that my girlfriend wants to shoot it all the time!!.........

This thread really demonstrates the huge gap between the $1000 point, where you can get things like a Mini-14, a vz58 or a T97, and the $2500 level where the Tavor, XCR and SL-8 are. The only one I can think of in that range is the MR1, but the design quirks of that one limit its appeal. It'd be nice to have more choice in the $1500-$2000 range.

At $2000 why not buck up and get into a Tavor? It's bad a$$, shoots well and the most compact package.
It's where I went but as a lefty my options are somewhat limited.

Every thing this man said. If you are going for a Non-restricted Black rifle, your only true option is the T97NSR, VZ58, and the Beneli MR1. If you want something you will never regret, and smile every time you shoot, save for a Tavor. It is the fastest growing non-AR platform since it hit stateside, selling 15,000 guns in just 9 months.

At 2K, I'd say save a little more & get the Tavor...

If you want to save $$$, get the T97 and buy a pile of ammo for it!

I have BOTH the Tavor & T97... They both have their merits. The price point of the T97 is hard to beat for a Non-Restricted bullpup!

Cheers
Jay

Tavor :jerkit:
I've shot four of them and they don't impress me enough to make me want to spend $2500 or more on one. If it was $2000 I might consider it.
I've only shot one T97 but it shot just as well as the Tavor and is 1/3 the price. The Tavor is built better but not 3x better. The Tavor does have the advantage of having a warranty and being able to get parts if you ever need them, soon it will have aftermarket support as well but to me it's not worth $2500+

I feel the exact same way except about the ACR and AR platform. The balance of weight and the ergos as well as the non-restricted from factory apeal of the Tavor is noticed a lot by people that have not grown up on AR's and ACR's. Thats where those platforms fall short.

I agree the tavor does have its downsides. The trigger is excessively heavy, and the accuracy with 55gr Federal is not great, but good enough for plinking. The groups shrink with the right factory ammo and guy on the trigger, to about 1.7moa. Wasn't your ACR 2moa with your handloads? :p

Next question is how many malfunctions have you had with your beloved AR's and ACR? I know of zero problems with the tavor except for TV-PressPass' bolt hold open device that became damaged by gen 2 pmags.

When the Bullpup shoot is on, TV-PressPass will talk some sense into you! :p

I just went through this, I ended up with a T97. As many members suggest, bumping up the budget ever so slightly increase the selection a looooot, however for me $2000 was already on the very upper end of my budget at the time. I've handled a SU-16, but it didn't really impress me at all. When I had my Benelli M4, I was convinced I would love a MR1 just as much, but as soon as I handled one, it didn't really do anything for me. I've also owned a 5.56 CSA VZ, and that was a nice gun, but the mag adapter is "meh" and at the end of the day I just really preferred that platform in a 7.62 form. I have also owned a Mini-14, and while not a true black rifle, I love that carbine for the role it was designed for (and what I used it for). Mine was an early 187 series however, and the new models seem to address most of the things I didn't like about mine. I originally started looking at buying a new series Mini, but availability kind of sucks lately, and the other issue is mags (can buy several good quality AR mags, including ten rounders, for the price of one Mini mag if you can even find them). I ended up trying the T97, and I love it so far. Handles great, super compact, and the price is awesome. So far has been reliable, and seems reasonably accurate (haven't had a chance to do any thorough accuracy testing, but it looks pretty good at this point). That's my 2cents anyways, obviously there are many other great options slightly north of $2k.

My ACR with non restricted barrel is down to about 1.5moa with handloads and not far behind with PMC green tips.
Failures with my ACR and AR's have come to a grand total of zero. PWS AR in 223 is at approx 4000 rounds with no failures, PWS AR in 300BLK is up to around 1000 rounds without a failure that wasn't caused by ammunition during load development, and my ACR is at around 1000 with the only failures coming from the brass catcher causing stovepipes (need a better catcher).
No one will ever convince me to pass off my ACR for a Tavor. I have 3 non restricted barrel conversions and a Tavor will never be able to offer me what my ACR does.

OP, save a little more money or give the AR 180-b that is on the EE a try. I loved mine and it was as accurate as any other black rifle available and was 100% reliable.

I was eyeing this up a while back, is there any news on weather or not this is going to be sold in Canada??? I'm not a fan of bullpups generally, but the 'non-restrictedness' of the Tavor got me interested and when I shot one at work I was deff. seriously considering it but the price tag has kept me at bay also...this thing looks bad ass though, the first bullpup to overcome the 'fugly factor' if you will....

Im not trying to convince you to pass it off, just thinking that you should give credit where it is due. You always pass it off as nothing special. :p obviously many disagree!

I do like the ACR as well, and hope to get one at some point, even if I only own one for a bit to try out but my initial test was disappointing. Maybe at the bullpup shoot I can test a NR version to check it out some more.

;)

What is this bullpup shoot, and why am I not going?
