Nuisance Black Bear

i find bear defence forums are full of opinions from people who have never been around or hunted bears. 303 in the vitals is more effective than 45/70 in the ass.

Wait, what? I thought we had all settled on a 12 gauge with alternating shot and slugs in the mag for bear defence, I mean what could better than blasting a bear in the face with bird shot initially "to blind it" and then following up with a slug, then some more shot to make it more blind(or angry?), etc., etc.

A shot in the vitals with a .303 sounds far less entertaining......

those "alternating" loads are hilarious imagine you miss and your next shot is 00buck or worse. lol. or being so cheap your "warning shot" has to be .25c birdshot? like why wouldn't you just shoot a slug into the ground if you really need a warning shot? . Bear defence logic 101: If this .72 caliber 440 grain slug doesn't kill it the first time then hit it with nine pistol caliber pellets designed to kill deer, and if that doesn't do the job and your still alive revert back to giant pieces of lead..... if i ever carry a shot gun for "bear defence" its usually loaded with 3" slugs because nothing says go away like a giant piece of lead.

Got a call from my sister-in-law yesterday saying the bear was around again.
But someone sent the bear a fax, because when I got there 25 minutes later,
he was no where to be seen.
Sooner or later, he will make a fatal error, and my sausage will be made. :)
Dave.

HaHA.
Around here it seems like the coyotes know our truck.
Someone spots a coyote and we jump in the truck to got to it and you can get hundreds of yard away and its leaving.
Last week my son jumped in a buddies truck and went to the field. The coyote didn't even walk when my son drove into the field.
At least he won't be telling his friends.

That`s how my daughter handles them. She could take of it the other way herself but its pointless as another one or two will take over its territory.

If they don`t get the message then the dogs always persuade them.

Animals don`t like or look for trouble.

If they are coming around repeatedly its always a reason for it like improper garbage storage etc not because they want to be d**ks. That`s a purely human thing.
The “purely human thing” is not always the case. I realize it’s a popular narrative, but that doesn’t make it so. Depending on location, bears travel through areas and to and from other areas. Bush, wild berries, grass/clover fields, water sources, “channelling” geo features etc all impact bear and other wild animal movements. Having lived many years in bear country without accessible garbage, orchards, or other bear attractants, my knowledge is not theoretical.

bear feeding and living is on pattern and very predictable ... if they come to one place to get food it is not because they guessed ... they found some food before and they put that area in their travel way.

Bears eat my quad seats as regular as clock work. The last one had 78 miles on it. Pretty sure they do that to be dicks. :(

Had a bear chew up every gas can I had on a jobsite out in the bush, so no work for the crew that day until we made a long run back to town for new cans and gas. That seemed like a #### move to me, the workers however didn't seem to mind.

I was told when they built the TC highway through the Rogers Pass, one of the problems was bears eating the seats off the equipment.
