Nutty 410 ammo costs here to stay?

I just bought a few boxes of mini shells for my 12ga. Cabelas had them on sale, $15 for a box of 20. 5/8oz of #7.5 shot, I figure through a full or turkey choke it should be good for getting the kiddos their first grouse.

I was going to buy a 410 for the kids, but once I saw the half-price mini shells I decided to try this route first.
I think you will find they work awesome. No recoil and very quiet. My longest shot was over 40 yards, dead grouse. I sold my 410 and this is what I do now, or 7.5 target loads if I am being cheap.

I just got a good deal an almost new 410 press and a whole bunch of components from a buddy who just wanted to get out of it. I won't ever have to buy wads or primers again... in fact I'm going to have to shoot my 410 a lot more now to use this stuff up!

prices are the same as 12ga around here. I dont know wtf the difference between trap and skeet is.
Either you've got crazy cheap 410 or crazy expensive 12ga...

Very roughly speaking...
Trap- targets fly away from you.
Skeet- targets fly side to side.

Trap generally requires breaking targets at longer ranges.

All I can say at this point in time is that 410 through a 12ga w/adapter does NOT pattern worth ####. I'll try to remember to update this thread after I pattern the mini shells.

Don't forget a US election on the horizon too, I expect the panic buying to start any time now if it hasn't already...
Buy a better 12 to 410 tube and you will get good patterns. Sidekicks. Companion tubes. Savage 410ers all work great.

If you're using the 410 for hunting while still more expensive than bigger gauges it's still alot cheaper than most center fire rifle ammo

For clay shooting the costs of factory ammo could be prohibitive

For hunting a nice 410 on a long hunt certainly justifies the expense to me.

As for 12ga mini shells vs 410. I do not have a cylinder choked 410 to compare thru the chokes. My 410s have either full or XF chokes. Compared thru those chokes 1/2 oz of #8 throws a denser core pattern than all of my 12ga guns with mini shells with the exception of my 1301 comp and factory full choke and my primos titewad turkey choke on my Canuck regulator

The mini shells throw a wider more even pattern. If I were to use one for 30+ yard shot on small game animals I'd take the 410. For flushing grouse or bunnies from thickets I'd take the mini shells.

My .650 custom turkey choke for my Mossberg destroys the wads in the mini shells and really distorts the pattern
I tested Aguila and federal mini shells vs aa 410 and challenger 410 all in #8 shot

No, they don't need a press. Only hand tools, and they use large pistol primers. Very little data online, trial & error experimenting on load development, I've been using Magtech brass cases for about a year, and they cycle in my Mossberg pump. The cases are scarce, I've been looking for more without any luck.
Bought some Magtech hulls from Budget Shooter Supply also a loading reference manual that contains a decent amount of load

LOL...NOT even close in prices around here !
You can buy a flat of Remington GC's for 115...tax in...Challenger Hi-Velocity 12 ga..123 tax in...
The last time I bought Win AA's(Feb 2023) for my 410 Citori were 179.99 before taxes. The Gun Dealer was just here on the weekend at Nova Sporting Clays...he had a bunch of 410 Challenger ammo on display...29.99 / box / 25..PLUS TRUDEAU's share !!

The prices I was talking about is $29 a box for hunting 12ga ammo. Target and hunting 410 here is also $30 a box. I'm aware target 12ga is still lower at ~13. It's all more then I wanna spend but I guess it's a hobby after all.
