I'm looking for more information on Production numbers for a Mauser 71/84 I've just purchased (yet to receive or I'd include pics) built by Mauser Oberndorf for Wurttenburg.

It is marked as a Waffenfbk Mauser with Regimental markings 121.R.E.4.224.

I've tried to find info on production numbers (I've seen one number saying that roughly 19,000 of these were built in the Oberndorf factory, compared to the hundreds of thousands built in the Danzig etc etc factories...

I've read that Allied forces bombed/dismantled the factory at one point during the war, destroying records relating to, among other things, production information.

I'll post photos once I have the rifle, but if anyone out there knows anything about production numbers, how many may have survived or still be out there, and where they stack in terms of rarity or collectability etc I would really appreciate it.

Joe Salter's Mauser! 6 Reserveinfantrieregiment, Ersatzbattalion, 4 Kompanie, Waffe Nummer 224. OR 6th Reserve Infantry Regiment, Depot Battalion, 4th Company, 224 rifle (depot infantry companies were twice the size of line companies with platoons in various stages of recruit training). This rifle was issued to trainees of the regiment and would have spent more time drilling than fighting. 6th Reserve Regiment was part of the Bavarian Royal Army stationed in the Munich area, in the Imperial order of Battle they were part of the 6th Bavarian Reserve Infantry Division. They were not deployed in the Franco-Prussian War but were deployed on 30 October 1914 in WW1 (not likely with this rifle, however).

Lol. correct - I bought it from Joe. From the pictures on their site it looks like its in unissued shape so I’m not surprised to hear that it was a drill/training rifle and that it didn’t see any service time. Issued rifles have a story behind them, but unissued, surplus or training rifles tend to be in better condition so either way I’m happy to add it to my collection but I don’t see a whole lot mentioned anywhere about the number of 71/84’s that would have been produced at Oberndorf compared to the other factories at that time or in the years following. Will post photos once I have it in hand but you can go on Joe’s site to see the pics they posted of it.

The legend is true. Thats what happens when you compartmentalize your love for various guns and aspects of shooting, but forget which account you’re signed in to when posting.

I have no reason to believe he/she is anything other than a stand-up person with a stellar reputation.
Is having multiple online identities, or changing one's online identity, acceptable on CGN? It would appear to be an ideal way for a member with a poor reputation and/or poor EE rating to continue under the radar on CGN. This may be opening a real can of worms but I just have to ask the question.

crap...now I need to create yet another account and come back to defend myself as a neutral third party. No need to stir up interest in a public execution, I’ll see myself to the door, but if anyone wishing to post about accepted practices of forums can sprinkle in any other info they have of the Oberndorf Mausers, I’d greatly appreciate it. Now I’ll refrain from posting anything else on this account and just sit quietly in the corner.

The only thing I can think of is that Mauser died in 1882 and from there til 1887 the company was in a state of financial flux and may have not been able to manage a large production 71/84s while the Imperial factories were able too.
