(This is for people out in the Vancouver Lower Mainland area for those that may not know)
I went into International Shooting Supplies in Surrey. I finally bought some reloading dies for my 270win rifle (WooHoo - finally). I was asking about bullets and powders getting an idea of costs and what not. I ask the guy on the other end of the counter if there is some IMR 4831 in an 8 pound jug. The guy on the other side says that they do not sell 8 pound jugs, only 1 pound canisters. I asked why, and he said that reloading powder is now regulated and my name and address needs to be written down while purchasing any number amounts of 1 pound canisters of powder. I was a little bit surprised and I wondering if other CGN'ers have had any experiences similar to mine. I am assuming that this may just be a store policy, but it could actually be imposed by government.
I have tried to search through stickies and a couple of subsections within the forums here, but I did not come across anything regarding quantity restrictions for gunshops to sell reloading powder.
The guys at International are pretty good and I like the service that they have, so this is not about slagging the store.
Any info about this would be helpful in clearing up confusion here. Any other sources in the Vancouver area that sell 8 pound jugs of powders (doesn't matter what kind - any really)? Would it be better to purchase online even considering the shipping as well as the Hazmat fee of $15 per whatever unit of measurement?
Not trying to stir any hornet's nest here, but comments and input are very much welcomed.
