Havent those poor souls had enough taken from them?

Overheard conversation a rural hospital Northern Alberta, a grandfather talking to his grandson emergency department waiting room seating area.

Grandfather said you see once this land was all ours.
But white man took it. Therefore there's nothing you can't steal from whitey that isn't already yours.

Unquote.

That's quite the career path set out by an elder. Another Bushie in the making.

Advanced age does not equal wisdom.

I've seen these types of signs on reserves in Ontario.

I don't have an issue with this. We did the same at our Church before we were ordered by the Province to do so; to protect our aging congregation from infection (we have been open for about 10 weeks now, with covid precautions); How many people whining about this have been letting random people into their homes??
This isn’t some reserve, every road in and boat launch for access is blocked in this area

It's against the law to interfere with lawful hunting activities. Anyone want to take bets on whether the CO's will enforce that against the Indians?

better question..... Has anyone called the BC Conservation office to get clarificaton on these closures?

I know that I'll be bringing this up with Metis leadership monday morning. We planned to hunt up that way this fall and no one, not even first nations, is interfering with my section 35 rights to hunt if i have anything to say about it.

ya - nice try. This is all BS, trying to use COVID to control access. Pretty funny, actually. This isn't Reserve land... not even Treaty land. Traditional territory, but there's no part of Canada that isn't. Ignore & carry on.

Edit i do have to add that once i got there the native were super nice and helpfull. Showing me how to fish and where are good spots. I was invited over to one guys house about 5 miles down river to fish a stream flowing into the bigger river..also given a big salmon after 2 guys watched us fish the afternoon with no bites. They were super welcoming and nice and enjoyed talking.

It was a really great time once i got there

Thanks for that edit. I work in mineral exploration and have been welcomed by the Tahltan once we broke the ice. There is another side to the story aside from 'gov tyranny' that happens when people connect with other people. Props for being patient at the roadblock.

I read the same type of sign on a native friends Facebook post , no one is allowed on our Res but us ! Shut them out . I respectfully asked if that worked both ways - you all are NOT allowed out for any reason - silence was deafening. Gates and locks can work both ways . We’re locked out - you’re locked in .

Now.

That's just funny, that right there! ^^^

Good on ya!

Well i figured id share my full experince there. Not just the negative. I was quite surprized with how nice they all where even with their town closed and me there visiting for fun.

I think its just the ones involved in the politics of all this that feel like being important and wanting to strech their little bit of power. Happens with the white folks too. I wasnt allowded on the shore of the bay of fundy due to covid for a few months. Also couldnt fish in any rivers or streams due to covid

Does their "blockade" prevent tax money from flowing in ?
Its actually the other way around. The tax money flow out. The Tahtans control access to the vast gold and copper reserves in their territory. One blockade shuts down the mines and the exploration. If the Tahltans are happy then the miners are happy and the BC government lets them do whatever they want. There are only a handful of RCMP in Dease Lake anyway and most of the COs travel from Smithers and Terrace, hours away. The NDP don't care if a few hunters are inconvenienced or is a few laws are broken. As long as they get their money.

Pick up some cheap padlocks from the dollar store. Carry them in the glove box.
