Oh for F**K's sake!!!

Get someone else to load magazines and #### it for you, then just keep changing mags without letting it run dry. ;)

As cool as that sounds, I used to do the second round put in the mag was a tracer trick in my Army days. I think I might try that after I get familiar with the firearm from the left hand side.

Sounds like you need your very own "Mag #####!":D Give Longshot a shout! He might be able to hook you up!:D :D :D

Sorry to hear about the hand though! I thought you were supposed to go blind when you "did that which we must never speak of?":D So its the "HAND" we have to worry about!:D ;) Guess I can stop wearing the Oakleys in the bathroom!:D
LOL :D dude, not helping...

You can cycle the slide on a 1911 one handed using the "Israeli" boot technique (OK I don't know the real name for this technique). But you're probably out of luck for loading your magazines.

I was thinking about running the slide off of a surface, but I can hear redleg telling me to get the hell off the range from here!

My THIRD wrist operation still left me a bit limp wristed, plus I had this neat aluminum thingy strapped to my right hand, making forearm to thumb basically one rigid unit.

I still shot a few IPSC matches like that ...
great excuse to practice weak hand shooting.

But yeah ... the wanker jokes were brutal.

Easiest way is to just send me your gun and I'll shoot it for you. I'll even send you pics.

Yeah, no. They would seize it at the Ontario border for being "too scary looking" for a civilian to own! Besides, I have a pretty good idea of when I would get it back... ;)

A couple of years ago I fell off the roof of my house. I broke my right wrist. After my left wrist recovered (I sprained that one) I started shooting with my left hand. Since I am left eye dominant my results were actually close to shooting with my right (prior to the break).

Funny that some guns I have that I never liked shooting much with my right hand feel better shooting with my left.

Interesting. I never thought about that. I was always under the impression that if you didn't like it in your dominant hand you wouldn't like it off hand either.

cycle the slide with one hand, your left.
it's easy.
I do it all the time to be cool.

I don't know what the technique is called, but just watch Saraph do it at the bottom of the elevator in matrix revolutions..

forgot to mention, if you find it too hard, remember to #### the hammer before cycling the slide... cycling with a cocked hammer is easy for one hand.

OOh, cocking the hammer first... good idea. I'ma puttin' that in my notes.

Well, speaking from a sprained wrist and 3 dislocated fingers(pinky to middle finger), it may be possible to shoot with a broken hand, albeit very painful.

Use a speedloader first off and fit the mag in your elbow of your broken arm and hold it tight by flexing. Then feed the rounds into the mag.
Use your good hand and pull the slide back using the back of the gun for leverage. Thumb on the back, fingers on the slide.
With the gun laying in its side, slide in the mag. Press it in with your working hand. Pick it up. Fire one handed. Hell, you could even #### it about 10-20 degrees inward to the body from vertical to make it easier.

But that's just my $0.02.

Cheers

I checked last night and foun I can load the magazines with my right hand gimped up. The loading idea sounds good. I'll have to try that...

most of what I know about one handed operation will get you DQ'd at an IPSC match, but here goes - you can operate the safety with the left hand trigger finger, also the mag release, you just have to change your grip. You can operate the slide in 2 ways, if you don't have a full length guide rod the safest way is to put the front lower edge of the slide (beneath the bushing) against something hard and push straight out, if however you have a full length guide rod you get to use the much less desirable, and not as safe - this means "don't do it for real unless you have to" - sight catch. You catch the rear sight on your belt and push the muzzle down and away from your leg, this works much better if the hammer is back. For what it's worth these are only supposed to be used in life or death situations.
Well, I think I'll just avoid the less safe method:eek: , if something goes awry I will end up winning a Darwin Award without killing myself, though, depending upon what happens, I just might wish I had!!!

Use left hand wiith following procedure:
1) Insert mag in pistol.

Okay.
2) While holding pistol in left hand, stick slide between butt cheeks.
Oooookaaay....
3) Squeeze butt cheeks hard. (This helps if you are a tight ass)
Well, I AM a conservative...
4) Push downward to rack the slide. (It helps if you have low profile sights)
Gives a whole new meaning to "butt groove"!
5) Should you start to bleed, apply pressure until bleeding stops and use
somebody elses butt, til yours has healed.
So you're really trying to get me shot, aren't you? Well, you can't have my stuff when I'm dead, so nya.
6) Get yourself a girlfriend to prevent any future wank injuries. :D
... Sure thing... but what do I tell my wife, who happens to have dibs on the S&W 586? I know! Griffoneur made me!:D

1) Slip unloaded gun in to waist band behind hip on left side
2) Insert loaded mag
3) Grab gun and point it downrange
4) Lean back away from the backstop
5) Rotate gun so the rear sight is pointing down
6) Catch the rear site on your belt, and push the gun forward, cycling the slide.
7) You either have a loaded gun, or a jammed gun and your pants around your ankles.

Ouch.

What kind of shooting and under what conditions?

Maybe its time to try something else untill it is safe to start shooting again?

There is "gung ho" and stupid.

Shoot revolver?
Right now its target shooting at an indoor range. I want to keep my practice up for the upcomibg holster course.

The problem is all my pursuits are pretty active, German longsword, mountain biking and shooting.

I would try to work everything out with snap-caps before I would go live fire. I was in te Infantry, not the MARS program! ;)

I did ask my wife if I could use her 586...

Sorry to hear about your injury. That TRP I sold you still a solid shooter?

Very. I would consider her a good cary gun if I were allowed to. The only thing she didn't like was a Kimber 10 rd. Magazine.

I hear you're top of your class again...

Shoot with your left, keep a couple fingers handy on the right for mags.

I'm just starting out, but once I become proficient with my right, I'm going to start spending equal range time on the left and right hands. I'd ultimately like to be evenly (and superbly) skilled with both hands.

The thing is, I only have my right index finger and thumb available. The rest of my fingers on the right hand are busy being used to stabilize things untill the bone begins to knit back together. I have this crazy splint on that fixes everything very rigidly.
