OK boys, talk me into a Savage

I have two savage rifles, a 116FHSAK in 300 win mag and a model 11 in 243 win, the 116 is deadly accurate and the 243 is also quite accurate although not as accurate as the 300 win mag but it was less then half the price of the 300 win mag, I'm also planing on buying a savage model 10 as my next rifle in 22-250 or 223 so IMO I think you'll like the savage

That may be true nowadays. There really are very few "bad" guns out there these days.

But once you have installed a match grade barrel without needing a gunsmith or any machine tools, you never look at the "ugly" (I admit is is) barrel nut again.

If you check around you can get a savage stainless, accu-trigger, accu-stock, with a brake for 600.00 or less...certainly is a bargain! and chances are it will shoot very very good. The only ugly rifles are the inaccurate ones regardless of price.

a 270 , 243 ,223
so far there is a hint of creep in the triggers before she lets go but not unuseable thats for darn sure

stock is a flexy bugger and will probaly be replaces by a boyds or get the foreend filled with epoxy.
Suggestions?

i kinda like the unjeweled bolt more then the savage bolts i have

oh ya the first barrel i ever replaced was switching a 338win mag factory with a shilen 260... i was hooked :D

The savage 111 is superior to the axis. The stevens 200 has a stock that is too cheap and flexible. It also doesn't have the detachable box mag of the 111. The 111 costs something like $50 more than the axis I think. Worth absolutely every penny in my experiences.

Wheres the "savage bargain"? Unless you're speaking of the 429$ package guns, blind magazines, bluing that can be scratched off with your thumbnail, stock made of the cheapest, most unusable plastic, and non-accutrigger....

Savage bargain alright....

I own and have owned 6 never had any of those problems. Bluing is excelent, magazines extremely servicable and a cheap stock is a cheap stock, so be it.

Savage makes the best bang for your buck as even their top end guns are still less than anyone elses

I've owned a 111F, the bluing was terrible, as well as the rest of the rifle.

And as I just showed the blued rifles are on par with everyones blued rifles, and their SS is on par as well....

Those are sale prices, I'm trying to keep it apples to apples. Also the Axis is not in the same category as the Model 700, or Savages line of good rifles. The Axis competes with the equally crappy Model 770.

If you think the bluing on the 111 is 'excellent' then you don't know a thing about bluing. Look at it with a flashlight. You'll easily see all the blemishes. Take a look with a flashlight especially in nooks and crannies (around the trigger group). You'll see that there is tons of (rust) left from the rust bath durign the bluing process that was never polished/removed from the steel.

They're fine rifles but please don't pretend they have 'excellent' bluing. If anything, that's their 1 major shortcoming.
