Ok enough! Where do I buy Brennekes?

I agree with dogger, the canadian made Challenger 2 3/4 magnum slugs work excellent, we use them exclusively for bear control here.
I wouldn't hesitate to use them in lieu of the Brennke slugs.
We get ours from Epp's at 14.99 for a 10 pack.

Here's what I've found out. The Shooting Edge doesn't carry them. Wholesale Sports doesn't carry them and I don't think they even knew what I was talking about. Italian Sporting Goods was closed today for inventory...

I bought 5 boxes of Brennekes from Wholesale Sports in Calgary a few months ago. They were the last 5 boxes they had. But you're right though, the guy behind the counter had no idea what I was asking for or why I was excited to see them. With any luck, they will get some more in.

Also a few years back, I found quite a few boxes in MilArm up in Edmonton, FWIW.

Well I called Accuracy Plus again today to see when they would be shipping my slugs. They happily told me they couldn't get any right now and that they wouldn't have any until the fall or later. Nice of them to give me a call back after having me send all my information to them and taking my order. Just one more store that I won't be bothered with ever again.

Guess I'm selling my pump and buying a 45-70!

Actually, those Challenger slugs that have been recommeded are indeed as good as the Brennekes. Why not buy some and do some penetration tests comparing regular fosters and the challengers? All you need is a bunch of phone books stacked up to test them.

Also there's the Fiocchi slugs which are similar to the Brenneke's and the Challengers as well. Dante Sports in Montreal carries Fiocchi.
Here's a pic of them:

maybe i should not have opened my big mouth now i will have to stock up on the challengers before there gone,i did shoot the challenger and breneke and we were getting good groups at a hundred yards off hand i tell you we shot at a n old steel fridge and man they zipped through at even 150 paced yard on the side of the they have 200 yard groups advertizing, i buy both when i find them and the deer dont like any of them either

i bought several boxes at Epps a while back, you should ask them.

theyre not exactly cheap though, so not quite 'plinking' ammo. will cost you about $3-4 a shot. a real shame theyre not more mainstream.

**edit:
btw found that there was a recall on Rottweil slugs:
Important Notice To Buyers of
Rottweil ™ Brenneke ™ Rifled Slug Ammunition

Rottweil Brenneke Rifled Slug ammunition is subject to the following warning and notice:

A limited number of rifled slugs may fail to clear the barrel completely upon firing. Although this is unlikely to occur, a follow-up shot could result in catastrophic failure of the barrel, and could cause property damage or severe personal injury.

The company is undertaking a program to identify and recover all affected rifled slugs. As a precaution, RUAG Ammotec GmbH will have the product returned at no charge, and refund the purchase price.

This program applies only to rifled slugs with batch numbers bearing the letters X, Y or Z as the fourth digit and batch numbers 52 VW 4 and 53 KA 3, no other rifled slugs are involved.

We ask that you call the toll-free number for the Rifled Slug Refund Program at: 1-866-464-4767.

The product code numbers on the box will positively identify if your rifled slugs are some of the affected product, and if so, how to arrange for reimbursement.

Do not use the above described Rottweil Brenneke Rifled Slugs.
off to check if my stock of brennekes falls under those batch numbers.

cordur,
norinco makes a short barrel pump; it is sold be marstar.
take a look.
go on the brennecke web site to find a dealer near you.
cowtown should have at least one.

Is there a Brenneke Canada site narraway?

The Brenneke USA site is for thier country only.

From what I remember, Russell's has never carried them for years,
(unusual for such an otherwise awesome sports store)

And WSS does carry them, but lately not as often as they should, or they sell out fast off the shelves.
In Vancouver its been mentioned Italian Sporting goods(?)
One can probably partially blame me for buying many Rotweill slugs, from Accuracy Plus in Peterborough.

Considering Calgary's proximity to the mountains, I am surprized more stores do not offer these excellent big game slugs.

JUST an idea fellas.....many shotgun shooters of less common 10 bore 2 7/8s, 16 and 28 bores, around here, are members of trap/skeet/clays shooter clubs.

Often they have a source of less common ammo through a Kent cartridge dealer.

Maybe a phone call/visit to your nearest Kent dealer, is one option for Brenneke Rotweill slugs???

maybe?

How do the Winchester Rackmaster slugs compare to a classic Brenneke slug? If they're very similar in penetration and damage, you could check for those.
