Ok fine....I'm a ammo hoarder

You say ammo hoarder like its a bad thing? What is the point in owning them if you dont use them. How do you use them if there is no ammo in the LGS.

Its a chicken/egg thing. One cant find ammo so buys large quantities when you find it, creating a shortage...creating hoarding.

Produce more,,,,problem gone.

My name is Christopher :canadaFlag:and I am a ammohallick! I guess it started when I was a kid. Sneak a box here and beg a box there ( back then they would sell to a kid). Sporting store and clothing store under same roof. New clothes for school part of the deal was I had to stay with mom for the clothes and my be if I was good I could go and look at the guns. Yup! That's OK hold still ,not that color, is it big enough, pay attention and listen to me dance! Couldn't be over fast enough. Then the speech you go there and only there and stay there until I come get you and do not touch any thing!! Yea! Yea! Then be fore I could make good my escape mom for the first time slipped me a buck fifty. I was gone can still hear the sneaker squeak as my runners screamed for traction, through the end less racks of clothes short cut through under where and I was there , Nirvana! What to oogle first! Iong guns, hand guns, bow and arrows, knives, traps, hunting clothes the cool stuff the red plaid felt jackets, them green hats that you pealed the top over to blaze Orange. Then O!GOD! Ammo! The Dominion boxes piled neatly on the shelfs, yes there were others to be discovered later but for now Dominion was the stuff of dreams( that's what pop used). The big boys first 30/30,30/06,308, 8 mm??, 577,577/450, 44/40,38/40( dad's old Marlin) and the last but not the least the 22's" didn't understand the grains stuff that's for the chickens but, hollow, points jacked( copper) are what fueled my desires. Visions of how they must be better than ordinary lead( all that I had shot or date) day dream. Snap back to realty mom's hand on the shoulder and the 1.99$ price. Don't know how but she just turned to to the clerk and asked if they had any brocken or damaged boxes of 22's. He turned and plopped a box down on the counter she looked for a minute grabbed a box looked at me in her poker face and said pay the man.99 cents plus tax ( can't remember the tax amount) to stunned to move, she had to poke me, pulled out the money and payed. She then put them in her hand bag and we left. Not a peep all the way to the car. Got in( back seat,) my place she turned and gave me the box no speech nothing, this was a trap! I was dreaming! What just happed? Hey stupid! Snap out of it ! You got 22 ammo, NO ! WAy! Copper hollow points. I could hardly contain my self. Have been chasing that buzz ever since. Iove you mom!!

Back in the 80's I was buying 8mm mauser, 8x56R, 6.5 x 55 and .303 for cheap, although we didnt see it as really cheap then. I do think that all this 7.62 x 39 and 7.62 x 54 that is running about 15 cents around will dry up and prices will go up. I have been able to buy 7.5 swiss battle packs as low as $250 but mostly at $299. This stuff hasnt been made for years. Buy it now while you can.

I struggle with the term "Hoarding" when I'm only trying to supply the healthy amount in which I regularly shoot. If I was confident that I could just go buy it whenever it was needed I would have very little piled up at home.

How does everyone hoard their ammo??

I have about 20 .50 Cal mil spec ammo cans (basspro in toronto has them now for $19.99) that I pack with ammo and then I bought 2-4 moisture absorbing packages (like those you get when you buy new clothes).

I've read many places that the powder starts to degrade, especially after a decade, which results in lower performance or even failures to fire. I disagree wholeheartedly with that owing to the fact that the ONLY thing ammo hoarders such as ourselves should be concerned with (re long term ammo storage) is moisture.

I bought a small dehumidifier for the room I store mine in. Runs 24/7 for about 6 months a year.

I`m a reformed hoarder. I went from:

to:

This should last me about a year of IPSC
(to be completely honest, this only replaced the middle shelf of my ammo cabinet. But I am considering adding another XL650 for 45acp)

I too have this affliction. I am so obsessive about my ammo stash that weeks and sometimes months before i purchase a new firearm I start purchasing thousands of rounds of ammo for that new gun to be.

That's funny because I was seriously considering starting to buy ammo for guns I want in the future. It seems less crazy when other people are doing it too. ;)

I was thinking the same thing... I see .223 or 7.62x54 and I'm wondering if that is a good investment "just in case"...

I have many 1000's of rounds of .22, 9mm, .45, and .223, .22 Hornet, and 22/250. We are casting and swaging our own .224 projectiles with .22 rimfire brass, so the only thing that worries me is powder. I grab it when I see it. Walked into Bass Pro the other day, to buy a new Sight Mark .223 bore sight, and spied a pound of Alliant Unique on the counter. They had just came in, so I grabbed all 5 lbs, cause I simply never know when I will see some pistol powder again.

I have this red squirrel that keeps coming back after I throw him some peanuts. I started with one handful, then about a liter at a time, the next morning they were all gone...I wanted to see when he would stop, I went through a 10 lb bag in a month...he kept coming back...somewhere out there, there is a huge pile of peanuts hidden somewhere. Damn squirrels.

I was @ a dinner party a while back, and @ each couples place setting there was a small box of Lindor chocolates for the lady and 50rd box of American Eagle 22lr for the guy. it was an epic idea on the part of the host couple. Oh yeah.... they also had a keg :)

Right place at right time last week. Picked up 4500 rounds of 22lr ( Federal & bulk Remington) under 6 cents per round. My 617 will shoot pretty much any kind of ammo accurately, just have to clean gun more often with some brands. I only took what needed for a few months and left another 10 000 rounds for others to buy.
