So, I got one of the new Marstar M-14's a while back. Only had 20 rounds down her and is bone stock.

I just discovered a little bit of an issue however.

I was doing a function test, and did the test to check the sear by firing, holding the trigger and pulling the charging handle. It worked fine when the rifle was level, but then I tried holding the rifle with my right hand and charging it with my left. As a result, as soon as I forwarded the charging handle the hammer would drop.

The rifle's position was pointed down, and tilted to the left. Like I mentioned it is normal when held level, and only seems to fail the test when held in the way i described.

Obviously the rifle is grounded until I can solve the issue (and afford ammo lol) so any input will be great.

I did read the function test sticky and from what I understand an improperly set stock can cause the issue? Ill go over the stickies again in the AM, but figured the minds of CGN could help troubleshoot until then.

Thanks.

Pulled the trigger group and so far the sear always catches the hammer when I cycle the trigger group by itself. So, its most likely something with the rifle or stock.

On an M14 that I had, I was having trigger group issues when wearing a USGI fibreglass stock, the problem ended up being that whoever filled the selector cut out left too much material and it made the receiver sit a little high on one side. May be worth checking that the receiver sits nice and square in the stock. Also check how tight the trigger group latches and that the trigger group sits square. I'm no expert and this may not help, but won't hurt to check.

If it only happens when you pull the handle with your left hand I'd say that you're putting pressure away from the rifle and it's catching the groove that's there for disassembly and not making it all the way back. Try it again making sure to keep pressure towards the centre line of the rifle. Sorry for the bad description, I'm new to the m305 as well and haven't learnt all the terminology.

So, I tried playing around with the stock, shaved sown a high point the trigger assembly was riding on, it made it worse, no it does it regardless of how I hold it.

Tried shimming the spot I shaved with masking tape, still not diff.

I am pulling the handle all the way back so thats not the issue.

All in all these last few weeks have not been going all that great so Im expecting something else to break real soon.

It really is horrible to hear issues with this platform as I have such a high regard for these through personal experience

I tried the same "test" as you did on your OP with my 2009 and I could not replicate your experience.

No matter what I did, with trigger engaged in either hand, sideways, level or upside down, it would not fire, unless I'm misunderstanding your post

Wish I could help.

Would like to know what the issue is as well.

If you were new to rifles I would say make sure your not limp wristing it and pull it back hard and let it fly. But obviously your not new :p my only thought would be that there is a problem with the seer? And it is not catching it correctly, of every thing is tight it should not matter what angle the receiver is on. So my only thought would be some thing might be lose on the trigger group? Did you try fully disassembling the rifle and inspecting the bolt carrier, and guide rod spring?

Easy fix.
You need to remove some minor material on the stock at the trigger bearing points.
This reduces the space between bolt and hammer and allows it to fully lock back.
There are two bearing points at the front under the wings of the trigger housing, and in the U shaped pocket at the rear of the housing. Remove even amounts from all three locations. Only remove very small amounts, a few thou at a time. Test frequently and adjust as needed until rifle passes safety test.
Tools I use are 80 grit sandpaper epoxied to a popsicle stick for the trigger wing areas and a cylindrical dremel gringing stone for the U shaped area.
