I am just getting so bored with all the new ARs out there so decided to go back to the original simple design that started it all. :)

No batteries, no rails, little as possible plastic, when I feel the need I grab my other flat top but strangely I prefer the original configuration also get lots of people asking where did I find it.

I have a SWG made 1988/89, had her over 20 years now shoots amazing with the 5.56 barrel in 11.5"all the AR Forums say the early ones where pretty good and used by lots of Police departments in the US.

I have a metal sliding buttstock, just waiting for some authentic 6 hole skinny grips as it has the new style fat grips, also has the old school pistol grip, and Colt scope clone. I did have the original Colt 3x20 regret selling it but I was offered stupid money for it used the funds to by a .22 conversion kit, Colt scope clone, ammo, and more mags.

Will post some pics when finished but let's see some of those hard to find old girls.

A link showing AR pictures (hope this is okay to do)

Beautiful!!

I have owned a few ARs since the early 80s but maybe its just me but with the ARs being made everywhere I just find myself drawn back to the simpler original like old cars and movies.

Thanks

Let us know how that works out for you... They are addictive and available in so many different configurations it's impossible to want only one.
Not a modern AR fan at all. Never have been. My RPAL would be for handguns solely. R/black rifles do nothing for me. Just want a vintage AR, in stock form.

These "Vintage" AR's are the cat's meow....IMO. Simple, uncluttered, light(weight) and they make the coolest sound("SPROOONG") when fired :)

Just sourced a 5/20 round mag locally and the skinny handguards.

Also did some digging my SWG left the factory mid 1988 and left as a CAR-15 in fact it is stamped as a CAR not an AR glad to know it was not a conversion or a parts guns. :)

Pictures soon and yes I just love the simple uncluttered shouldering and paino getting hit by a truck sound. :)

Nice iron, yeah I found a smaller XM-177E flash hider tough to find, just waiting for a set of old skinny handguards.

My fav look is the 605, I have tried everywhere to find CAR 15 sized triangular handguards that fit the delta ring and round front handguard piece. :(

The only two AR's I own.

I built them both from parts that took me a long time to track down. I even put the barrel complete on the model 653 myself (first ever!)

I have got 2" groups easily with good ammo from both rifles with the irons from prone supported at 100 meters.

First is a model 653 (kind of; has a Colt A2 upper vice the A1 and an A2 grip again vice the A1)
Armalite lower.
Barrel is Daniel Defense 1:7 CHF 14.5" low profile. Had to get a low profile gas block barrel and get it taper pin drilled by a smith to fit the old school gas block.

Second is a classic later model M16A1 style clone.
1:12 Colt pencil barrel. Actual USGI upper A1 complete. Original USGI A1 grip, butt and hand guards and delta ring. 3 prong flash suppressor.
DPMS lower but whatever, it's made out of metal and it fits AR parts, good enough...

Every trip to the club they come out, I treat them rough too, I drop them on the ground when I'm done with them. I like getting them battle scarred :D

I'm kind of a purist, I only clean them with an old school USGI surplus M16 cleaning kit and CLP lol

I personally have zero time for modern AR's. They're heavy, ugly as f**k, unbalanced and overloaded with every battery operated lazer optic ###ness and crazy expensive for the "upper end" brands lol Literally they have become a Barbie Doll for men and that's every bit as weird and perplexing as it sounds.
I don't get the appeal at all myself but that's just me. The rifle as Stoner invented it in its purest form is an amazing gun. Incredibly light, incredibly accurate (for a semi auto battle rifle) and extremely well balanced and easy to handle and maneuver for the reliability and firepower you can get. I'd go out on a limb and say the A2 iron sights may be the best sights ever put on a rifle (maybe close tie with the M1 Garand/M14).

Love me some original AR's! Good to see some people taking a big step back from the precipice of absurdity that has become the modern AR trend.

Keep them coming guys! Cool thread.

Awesome guns Travis Bickle!!

My sentiments as well, guess I am just going "meh" whenever I see a new flat top...

Like looking at a new Vette with nav/toys and a classic Vette with a AM/FM 8 track radio. :)

Randy

Then I would need to source a set of triangle short handguards not to mention install the new cap, just wish they made round end triangle guards. :(

Thanks
