Hello from Oklahoma!! I was searching the web looking for some info on Canadian gun laws and found you guys. Judging by what I have read in these forums I should get reliable info here.
I am in the process of making a "knock-around rifle". the kind that you toss in the back of your truck on a trip, but is still accurate and reliable. It is an old M1917 Enfield that Bubba had his way with. It is still a sound rifle and will be a good rifle for my purposes.
The info that I am looking for is what is the min barrel length for a rifle in Canada?
I do realize that if I were to take it into Canada, I would have to take a class, pass a test, and apply for a permit to bring it across the border.
There are no plans in the immediate future for this, but I do want it to be legal just in case.
Thanks in advance to all that reply to this post. You guys have a fine forum, and are a good bunch of GUN NUTZ.

Just remember you can't chop a barrel below 18.5 inches for semiautos or 18 inches for non semis. New factory barrels below that length are OK on non-semis, for instance 8 1/2 inch barrels to mount on 870 shotguns are readily available here and the guns are non restricted as long as the gun overall length is over 26 inches. But you can't take a longer barrel and chop it down.

I wish that that 8 1/2 inch barrel were legal here! It looks like it would be fun to play with. What kind of muzzle blast does it have? Is there any choke built into it? If they were legal here, it would be the perfect home defense firearm. Many people don't have the time or the range to practice enough with a pistol. These people would be much better served with a short-barreled shotgun like that. We CAN get the shorties, but there is a federal license to get, and it usually takes a while for the paper work to go thru. Kind of a pain in the you know what.
Thanks for the info,
