So what are your plans for this guy ...taxidermist ??
I shot this fella 3 hears ago.... Already did a "live" mount. He now presents himself walking down some rocks in my game room with all my other critters! Next one his size may end up a rug. Doing a life size mountain goat now so wife will probably kill me if I do another cat!

I have 30-30 dies on the way as I'm cooking up a way to make 30-30 soft points out of milsurp 7.62x39
All you have to do is take a file and round the tips alittle(don't go nutz or it could be dangerous) and using once fired 30-30 brass that you resize and prime, then dump the surplus powder in about 20gr of it and maybe about 26gr max,cap it with the file'd milsurp pill and off you go. If your overly worried about a .311 in a .308 bore(done it about a million times when all I had were hornady .311 tips for my 30-06) you can use a lee push through sizer and some case lube. I've found these file'd down rounds in my 30-06 will expand like mad inside coyotes and considering it's about 123 gr SP it really speeds along. These are not instructions this is just what I do and if you want to do it, do it at your own risk. That being said I've looked in my reloading Manuals and will be safe,just always do your research before phucking with ammo

When I hunt Moose, I like to have a compact block and tackle in my knapsack. For a shot like that, it would be used to haul it out onto the bank. It is also handy to haul a carcass part way up a tree to make cleaning a bit easier, if a tree is handy.

I have a few 30/30's but keep grabbing the 308 when I go hunting. I get a real smile on my face when I take one of my hundred year old 94's out to the range. The rifle seems to group pretty tight at 110 yards considering open sights; just over an inch for three shots. Just put a tang sight on the carbine and have yet to try it, but it doesn't group as well, probably something to do with the top of the bore being pitted from hanging upside down on a wall for too many decades. Shoots better than I expected though.
I really wanted to see what pointy bullets would do in a 30/30 so I bought a Savage 99 and did some reloading. The Leverevolution(sp) bullets hadn't been invented yet, or weren't for sale. The point on my regular 150 grain bullet makes for a longer bullet than a SP of RN so to keep OAL short enough to chamber, the bullet was too far into the brass to get a full charge of any powder I had on hand. They shot but with a lighter charge and I had no chronograph to measure anything with anyway.
Oh well. So much for my experimenting.
I'd like to see what speed I'm getting with my 110 grain plinking loads.

Last year.
I was out before first light, got settled, and as light began to come up I spotted this guy. He was fussing about, maybe 50 yards away. I put the rifle on him, but although it was legal, I could not see my sights. I was under a balsam tree, maybe the shadow? Anyway, he went behind a big rock, the size of a room in your house for a bit. I kept checking my sights, and eventually he came out. One shot and he just vanished. So I sat there wondering if I had somehow missed, giving him time. I went over after a bit to see where I had shot, but could not find blood, or track. WTF? I could see where he had been standing, but not where he had gone. I made a circle around the area. Not one track until I found where he had come IN to the circle. again WTF? So I looked back to where I had shot from, trying to re-envision the shot, but when I lifted my gaze, there he was. He had fallen behind a log, and my circle had been too big. There were no tracks out, because he was still inside. About 240lbs, and nine points. Good eating too.
