Old classic hunting rifles.

Husqvarna 1640 in 6.5x55. Another Trade-Ex beauty.

Got some steel weaver bases coming and hope to find a decent scope for it soon. I'd like to see if I can take a bear with it this coming fall.

Mike, does it have the "plastic" (epoxy) stock coating? - This really looks like either my 3000 (third from left first pic, second in the second pic). Is there a "Imperial" stamped on the barrel?... For sure, you have something there! Do not try to free flaot the barrel! it's very tightly imbedded in the stock and unless you overheat the barrel, you will get very good grouping with this one!

Win/64 yes, it's a 9.3X57, both pics are the same rifles, just showing some details of the wood sticks that hold the barrels...

And don't worry, I share... but with my girlfriend.... and, unfortunately, the 46 already get an adoption home... but not for now....

I don't think it's a 3000. It seems to have indentations in the forend tip. It may just be an Imperial Grade.

I don't think there is Imperial on the barrel, but I will have a closer look. I'm pretty sure it doesn't have a urethane finish, if that's what you mean.

And yes, I thought it looked exactly like your .308 photo.

Update - no imperial on the barrel that I can see. Just Husqvarna Vapenfabrik Kal 6.5, the serial and a nitro proof marking. Is that engraving on the floorplate factory or custom?

See thru's - YUCK. Not my style - scope too high = can't shoot the gun well.

Win/264,
mine is a 3000 and have exactly the same stock (see pictures). The same stock was also used for the 6000 model and some of the 1900 action.
As for the finish, no it's not urethane, it does not strip with standard stripping solvents. It is said to be a high gloss epoxyde coating (and believe me, it's really hard to strip!) and was used on what they called "American" or export models. If it's not, then it's only oiled, wich I prefer over varnish.
The engraving on the floorplate is from factory, and it means it's a higher end model (the stock says it all). Mine, instead of having the floorplate engraving have a jeweled bolt.
The Imperial model had bot, plus an adjustable trigger and express sight.

I just posted this picture on another site and got to thinking about old classic rifles. I have my share of the new stuff, and won't argue against the stability of good synthetic stocks, great adjustable triggers, superb optics, etc, but there is just something about these fine walnut and blued steel gals that never gets too old to appreciate.

This is a JC Higgins Model 50, 270 Win, made for Sears and Roebuck. They were built using FN actions. Can you imagine that? That would be like Canadian Tire having a rifle built for them with their name on it today, using Sako actions. :D

The scope is a Unertl Condor 6 power, and all done up in Weaver mounts it weighs close to nine pounds! :runaway:

Laugh, but this fifty-some year old outfit will put still put five 150 gr Speer spitzers into a bit over an inch with 56 gr of H4831 and magnum primers. No glass bedding, no fancy trigger, no magic at all, just still as it came from the factory.

What is the oldest classic you have on hand today, and do you shoot it still?

Ted

Cool. That looks like my dad's 270... I am going to have to ask him if that is where he bought his rifle

Here are a few of my favorites.

A large-action Martini-Henry converted to .22 Hornet by A.G. Parker:

I haven't done much shooting with it, alas. This summer I hope to get some loads worked up. It might also be nice to be
able to fit an old-fashioned scope to it if it could be done properly. I have a pic of David Kaiser (ex-Brownell's employee)
with a similar rifle with an old Unertl on it.

:) Stuart

They tend to fit barrel blocks on the old martinis, I have some but if you need an odd size a good friend here makes them!
