Not sure if this is in the right forum or not, but I'm looking for some info on an old rifle that was handed down to me. I apologize in advance as I don't have pictures right now as the gun is still down south. Gun appears to be a .43 Mauser (or Spanish), I haven't cast the chamber yet but the bore is the right size and it came with 3 boxes of loaded turn of the century ammo for .43. Bolt action repeater originally built in 1872 and (I believe) rearsenaled in 1882 as a repeter. I believe it was issued to the BC light horse infantry around the turn of the century. Looking for a possible ID on the rifle, as I haven't found much online. I apologize for the lack of info and pictures.

1871 Mauser was a single-shot.

The Repeater was the Infanteriegewehr 1871/84, most of which seem to be 1887 manufacture.

There WAS a tube-magazine Kropatschek also, 'way back then, which was adopted for several years starting about 1878 by the French marines. It was a great monster of a .43 also.

Only decent photos, including close-ups of receiver markings, will settle this.

Sounds right INTERESTING......

The m71/84 looks about right, I will try to get some pictures sent up as I'm not headed south for a few months now. Could of been stamped 84 not 82, we looked at some much stuff from that era my memory might not be the best. It was really cool (and a bit concerning) opening a war trunk that had not been opened since he came back from ww1. His bandoleer was still full of issued .303 ammo in stripper clips. No one can remember exactly where this rifle came from though, it is though it was issued to him or brought home from ww1 as a trophy.
