Old Webley Hurricane info

Hey,

I have an old Webley Hurricane that I 'inherited' years ago. It seems to to be fairly old, with a blued steel barrel and the white lettering is basically rubbed off. It cycles well and certainly has good compression. I'm not sure, but there may been a front sight hood, too?

The biggest thing that has kept me from shooting this pistol is that it is missing the rear sight. I have shot it, just to see if it works, but hitting anything is obviously ridiculous.

It is stamped "177 -4.5 cal" and the underside says "Webley & Scott Ltd, Made in England" with a pentagon stamped below with an F in the middle.

If anyone out there has any info on this discontinued pistol, please drop me a reply. I figure I'll either try to track down a sight for it, if anyone has a suggestion where I can find one, or I will put it up on the EE. If I end up selling it, what is a fair price for this for both the buyer and seller?

Thanks!!

The scope mount is just a plastic piece that drops into where the rear sight sits.

It wouldn't be that hard to fabricate a block to sit in the rear sight location and then adapt an existing rear sight to fit.... looks like the front sight has been filed down as well.

Give John at D&L Airgun a call on the rear site.
He may be able to get you the scope/reddot mount too.
I paid $150 for one, like yours it had no rear site, and the front sight had been filed halfway down.
One in good shape asks between $225-$270, some sell, some don't. KD

Webley Hurricane

... The 'Scope is not worth, apart from the Novelty aspect, spending a lot of Money on. The Bracket is plastic, and prone to cracking, and the optics on the "Scope, are not the greatest. Plus, it's a Break Action Air Pistol, which limits accuracy ! ...... The Pistol is very well made, and should last a long, long time ! Reasonably accurate, good adjustable sights, but it's only a short range Air Pistol. Fun to shoot, and useful for Training/Practice, as the felt "recoil", aids in a steady hold. Mine has accounted for, a few, unwary, Crows, up close ! ...... David K ;)

Thanks guys, that is great info. I'll inquire about the sights and see if it is worthwhile to do. I think it is a great looking pistol, and I never thought about the training aspect with the 'recoil'. There are a pile of rugrats around that could use something like this as an introduction.

Thanks again!

.. It's NOT quite a "Recoil", as you would experience with a center fire, but with the Piston moving, there's definitely movement ! At around 15 feet, mine will put a hole through one side of an Empty Pop Can, and if it hits just right, often right through the can! ...... David K

I just sold one not too long a go for I think $200.oo in exc condition
with the orig. book . Not much power.
If you are handy , you could maybe find a adj. rearsight off something
else and fit it on the gun if it was dirt cheap.

Wow, there is another one out there. I have the manual with exploded parts diagram. I could scan it and email it to you if that would help you at all. Anyone want to buy this one?

Nice gun! (when it has sights!) I have a Tempest and love it. A friend of mine has both. Never really cared for the Hurricane as it lacks my favorite feature of the Tempest~compactness. (is that a word? lol) Anyhow, with a little care, the gun will out-last those who own them, I'd get yours back to factory spec sight-wise and enjoy. They lack a bit in the power department, as stated here...but a rugged plinker with nice grips and balance. The Tempest anyway. ;)

Provided you hold and shoot it with a loose grip..........middle finger +thumb....both bottoms fingers just touching grip....watch the groups tighten......flatnose RWS pellets.................Harold........I have a Tempest
