Olympic Shooting

Olympic shooting is a very dedicated discipline on its own. I see 2 ladies training at my club for 22lr rifle, when I see them, I am ready to leave. The time it takes for them to setup is eye watering, from the clothing to laptop with special shooting box with microphones downrange, 2 suitcases full of stuff. Winter time, they use a heated tent.

I just wanna blast away.

I've never thought shooting firearms or Air guns could look so boring. But Olympic shooting literally takes any of the fun factor out, and puts it squarely in the category of boring. It's boring to watch, it's boring to read about, it's boring to do. No wonder it's how the Olympics do shooting sports, as they are just as caught up in current day politics as the rest of these horrible global event groups.

I guess the question is.....will you cut off your hand in order to qualify for the Paralympics?

Interesting question , sounds a little glib , tho I witnessed
an able-body skier asking a para-skier how he could ''get into''
one of those. (sit-ski's)
Of course the answer is ''break your neck.''

Actually, shooting one handed in the rapid shooting events is fun…:) looking at it, like looking at golf..boring yep. But doing it, like golfers will tell you, is very different.

You could borrow someone else's pistol.

Not really..those guns have a fitted handle to the shooter hand, and if not already competing..the way the new rules are written..you cannot go in. Thats stupid but thats the ways it seem written.

Only the shooters already competing can buy a gun..might be wrong..but the little I have read ..it’s what it is.
There is no provision to join in.

LOL...

You do realize that this is like asking how you can become an NFL starting QB because you own a football?

There are no "walk-ons" at that level of competition.

If you were Olympic quality you would already be in the program.

But, it's always nice to dream...

I believe you guys are the expert in this area. How does one become actively training in Olympic shooting? Is that shooting Federation of Canada?

Is it possible to train in Olympic with a Glock and .22 conversion kit?

Can a local gun club set up Olympic training day so participants can sign up as training for Olympic?

You don't actually have to be going to the olympics. You just need to be training for the olympics. I'm curious to see how the sudden interest in olympic shooting plays out.

Since you need a letter from the CFO you will likely have to prove that you are training in a specific capacity, a few times a week, with proper instruction, attending competitions etc.

Probably not, they don't want any new civilian gun owners in Kanada, in fact they want all of us gone. And God forbid if a new Olympic Kanada shooter brings back a medal, that would be bad publicity for the Libs. They want none of that.

I'm not suggesting that we collectively break Trudeau's stupid laws...but what happens when we collectively decide to break Trudeau's stupid laws?

Trying to answer the original question as well as some others that came up here.
First of all I do like Olympic style shooting and if people find it boring, that is fine. Some people also think fishing is boring but I like that too. So now onto more important points.

Shooting Federation of Canada is primarily focused on Olympic style shooting and are heavily funded by the Government so they are rarely active on political and lobbying side of gun ownership.

Currently there are just a few manufacturers that produce pistols that are used for Rapid Fire and Sport pistol events which are 22 lr events as defined by the ISSF.
Few more make competition Air pistols. Air pistol is way more popular as en event and covers 3 Olympic events.

For the actual ISSF rules you check them out here. Warning not light reading

We are looking hard into this as well, we all know what is next.

While I have owned a few Olympic handguns, glocks will never be included.
Can you buy one now if your are not already in the sport??????? I don't know
The interesting thing I noticed on the online auctions in the last couple of months or so,
These Hi end target guns did not sell that great , compared to 44 mag, or 9 mm Glocks, and CZ that where selling for very hi prices.
I kind of think the barn door is closed.

I little tidbit some will not know, The only US made gun to ever win Olympic gold was with a Hi Standard pistol, 22.
All the rest have been Euro guns Hi Standard only made one centerfire pistol in all the years they where in business

My father shot for Canada in two Olympics with High Standards. He didn't excel in the selections or get to the finals.
