Olympic Shooting

This bill is not something I want to develop a work around for. Efforts are best put elsewhere.
What is your plan when you are barred from taking them to the range? Or ammo becomes restricted to club possession only?
They haven’t banned this website “yet” Had your MP on the phone yet?

Huge push is needed to get IPSC, IDPA and 3 gun into the Olympics...

You can't even do Olympic trap or skeet. CBSA's directive from May 2019 states that bores are measured from end of chamber to muzzle. RCMP-CFC rules follow SAAMI definiton of bore: end to chamber to start of choke. Can't be over 20mm remember. Rules out every 10 gauge with an interchangeable choke system and most 12 gauges as well.
It's therefore possible to buy a shotgun legally in Canada. Go and win the Olympic trap competition. Re-enter the country and be arrested, fined, and jailed for importing an illegal firearm; ALL with the same weapon.

But we're not really trying to ban shotguns. Sure we're not.

Modern Penathlon, one of the original "modern Olympic" sports was developed by Baron de Coubertin as a sport for cavalry officers to compete in. As a former competitor it saddens me to say the laser tag gun they use now cheapens the sport but makes it more TV friendly.

There is no "laser tag guns" being used at the Olympic or Paralympic level. there is a training device that allows you to measure bunch of metrics of your shooting but they are not used in competition. They tried, and we gave them a resounding NO.

From what I understand it was a run as a test event in the past. Not sure what year though. anyway, to get to the root of it, those pistol events will NEVER become olympic events because it is seen as an extension of military and law enforcement shooting. They dont even allow cargo pants or camo anything to be on the shooting range at an event. Ask me how I know...

Honest question. What is the point of doing all this? If you by chance get your exemption, wouldn't you only be limited to buying pistols that are sanctioned for the event? I don't think they'll approve your 44 mag revolver you want to buy or desert eagle etc.

Exactly. Guns made for the events only. A shooter will have to enroll in the Federation shooting program and follow it. Like going to the gym 2-3 times a week ..:) you have to be dedicated to that sport to get in. You are followed by instructor- coachs.
All this to obtain a couple of .22, Walter or Pardini at $2000 + a pop ??

This is also a sport for the young. They start young shooter early and ‘build ‘ them up to a high level. Can take 10 years to get to Olympic level and some just cannot follow the pace mandated by the required training. ( school, life, family, job ect )

At our club, 2/3 of the pistol shooters have a hard time to show up once a year !! I don’t think Olympic shooting program is a viable option for sport shooters.

Besides Olympic Shooting, World Cup events should also qualify which include Standard Pistol and Centerfire events. These events make IPSC look like child’s play. Check out the size of the ten ring and the type of score you would need to be competitive.

Considering the cost and hardship, might as well go to the black market since the penalties seem to be less.

The law doesn't say you have to be good at it, you just have to be training for an elite sport.

As for me, I all of a sudden find myself interested in competing in the Olympic shooting competitions, despite the fact that I've wanted to do so for years fnf mods

A huge concern here is custom grips. An often go to in the past was Rink Grips for a variety of sizes & styles, target handguns.
Now with the ban, getting parts such as this (or firing pins, springs, etc) importing these could be stonewalled now??
Not sure....
