On Clearance: TAC-12 "M3 Super 90"

C,mon in, the water's great! Seriously, I think that you will be well-pleased with your purchase. These are a sweet shotgun with a unique dual operating system, whose only unknown at this point is the gun's long-term durability. That will be determined in due course. Performance straight out of the box is fine, with excellent reliability thus far.

I ordered a GG&G M2 Extended Tactical Charging Handle to replace the civilian-pattern Charging Handle that comes with the shotgun. The axle of the GG&G Handle is a big bigger circumference than the hole in the Bolt-Carrier, necessitating some reduction. I used a sanding drum on my handy-dandy Dremel to work down the size of the Pin, eventually achieving a solid fit. The extended Charging Handle makes for much easier and more positive control of the Bolt Carrier's position.

I also installed an S&J Hardware Extended Bolt Release 2.0 pad, which requires center-drilling the existing steel "button" and tapping with a 5-40 Tap. Once installed, the pad makes it easy to acquire and operate the Bolt Catch by touch alone, with or without gloves. Another excellent, essential upgrade for the M3 "Turknelli" clone.

Good to hear! I will have to look into those upgrades, did similar upgrades to my Benelli M4.

This actually bodes well for the replacement Buttstock that I ordered online, as it is supposed to be a direct replacement for the Benelli M4 Stock. That means that the threaded Recoil Tube on the Clone Buttstock ought to mate up fine with the threaded hole in the rear of the "Turknelli M3" Receiver. Fingers crossed!

If adding heavy stuff reduces reliability would removing weight increase reliability? Or would the inertia system not work that way? I saw benelli originally offered the m3 with a top folding stock, no tube at all and it was light weight. Looks like they never offered it on its own you had to order it that way (also wouldn’t fit an m4 receiver) but got me thinking about some sort of adapter and a pistol grip only

Good question! I have no idea what effect removing existing weight would do to the Inertia Operating System. Increased reliability with lighter loads could very well be the outcome, based soley on "cause and effect". That said, the long Barrel length may make the "Turknelli M3" awkward to handle and relatively inaccurate without a Buttstock and the 3rd point of stabilizing contact that it would provide....

My thought was since the buffer tube isn’t needed and someone must 3d print a m4/870 adapter plate, ATI top folder. They are plastic and pretty light weight

This would require more than just decorative cladding on the exterior of the shotgun. In order to be functional, the Handguard/Pump would have to cycle the Bolt when in pump-action mode. The switch between semi-automatic and pump-action is integrated into the Handguard, which is another situation requiring the integration of exterior parts and the underlying mechanisms. In short, I believe that creating a SPAS-12 "clone" is a much bigger engineering job than most appreciate due to the requirement for exterior parts to be functional. Anything close to the original in terms of appearance is also liable to attract unwanted ban-hammer attention from the classification Na#is regardless, resulting in prohibition. Just saying.....

So I finally dealt with this issue and Tactical imports shipped me a new barrel. Good response from them. I would probably buy from them again.

I have my "M3" modded to accept a mesa tactical urbino stock. Takes some chopping and a printed part but it looks good.

Thanks, Simon. Installing your Extended Bolt Release 2.0 was easier than I thought. My only advice, which worked well, is to first drill the center hole with a smaller Bit size, then the larger Bit for the 5-40 Tap. That way you can most easily center the hole in the middle of the steel Button.

Have you had the chance to play with one of these "Turknelli M3 Super 90s" yet? If not, I highly advise doing so! The switch-mode system is a cool capability enhancement for less-lethal ammo and low-powered Bird Shot. The Turkish quality is right up there in terms of the CnC machining quality and the overall fit/finish. All things considered, and with only long-term durability still unproven, these Suluns appear to be a very nice, high-quality, Tactical Shotgun. My advice is to check one out before they're gone. As a "Shotgun Guy", I think you will particularly appreciate this one. You get the functionality of a SPAS-12, but with a much livelier and less "clunky" pump-action mode.

Now I just need to sort out an adjustable Buttstock. Or worst-case, an Urbino "shorty" Buttstock like Vink99's great looking results.

Looks great! Which flashlight/sling mount do you have on the front?
 
Finally rescued from Canada Post hell, got it together for an inspection, still need to do a detail strip and clean, but I noticed the charging handle comes out of the bolt reeeeeeally easily, like too easily. Anyone else noticed this?
