ON orange question

chappy: im sure you all get stupid hunters on the wescoast as much as everywhere else in north america. im not worried about the smart hunters. im worried about the trigger happy idiot hunters.

there was a woman here in ontario last year that went for a walk on crown land without wearing orange durring hunting season. guess what happend to her. she got killed by an idiot hunter who didnt id his target and killed her with a gun (news didnt say what it was that i recal)

Northwoods,

The way it reads, you don't need orange during the fall bear season (before deer/moose seasons) unless you are hunting bear specifically:

"Licensed individuals hunting black bear during the fall black bear season"

It distinguishes between bear and deer/moose specifically.

I had this argument with a person on here, and called the MNR personally as did another person.. and you HAVE to wear orange when there is a gun season open in your area, regardless of which big game season it is.

 why can't people read.... go to page 1, see the letter right from the MNR for Ontario and orange? it say's bear in there to eh:rolleyes:

When bear and moose season is over, THEN your not required to wear orange.

When it comes to bear season, the only time your not required to wear orange "in the bear season, not talking about waterfowl" is if your in a tree stand.

It really isn't that hard to understand... really it isn't

Goto page 23 of the regs, 2007

"Under this regulation, all licensed hunters, including archery hunters hunting during the gun season for deer and moose, are required to wear hunter orange. As well, all black bear hunters hunting during black bear season are required to wear hunter orange except when in a tree stand"

I can read, and no where here does it say you have to have hunter orange during the gun bear hunt.

If you are in an area that has a gun hunt for deer or moose (WMU) no matter what the local bylaws you will need to wear hunter orange when bow hunting. That is how it is stated in these regs, mind you I would call your local CO and see what they say, the worst thing they can say is no.

Everything I have posted came from the MNR website. Chart and text say.

BEFORE deer/moose gun season, only bear hunters need to wear orange when not in a stand

Under this regulation, all licensed hunters, including
archery hunters hunting during the gun season for deer
and moose, are required to wear hunter orange. As well, all
black bear hunters hunting during the black bear season are
required to wear hunter orange except when in a tree stand.
(This exception is in place because, unlike deer and moose,
black bears have colour vision.) Waterfowl hunters, wild
turkey hunters and archery hunters in archery-only seasons
are exempt from the hunter orange requirement.

I am talking about people hunting small game "right now" there is a moose and bear season open here. and YOU DO need to wear orange, I called the MNR myself and was told just.

Maybe things are different in this part of Ontario then there. Who knows. I don't really care. I know what I was told. Also ask Robinhood, he called as well and was told the same thing by the MNR.

I am talking about people hunting small game "right now" there is a moose and bear season open here

and you'd be absolutely correct.

Brian..
The way it reads, you don't need orange during the fall bear season (before deer/moose seasons) unless you are hunting bear specifically:
and hes correct too!

You guys just aint seeing your saying the same thing

The MNR told me I need to wear Orange "right now" so I am going to listen to them and not somebody on the internet ;)

You do need to wear orange right now.. when ever there are rifles or shotguns involved in a big game season, you need to wear orange, period. And I would appreciate if everyone that lives in Ontario that is in doubt, call the MNR or personally go to your local MNR office and speak with a CO to be told the same.
Gees.
This aint BC people
EDIT:
I made the call to the MNR in Kirkland Lake Ontario a little over a week ago

Right now for you maybe, but that is a broad statement for the province, the regs are clear, be specific to your area.

North,

I'm not questioning your take or the mnr. But the reg is poorly written. All they had to say was bear/deer/moose and not separate the regs. The fact that they did is bizarre.

Brian

directly from the fact sheet:

"Licenced individuals hunting small game or upland birds during seasons other than the open season for deer or moose; "

I don't know how else this can be interpreted.

Even the accompanying chart has Grouse in black while Bear is red before the deer/moose season.
