Been wanting one , a bit , I think , maybe. lol I'm just wondering what most of you new Mosin Nagant owners think of yours.
Do you enjoy shooting them regularly ? , or did the novelty wear off after a couple hundred rounds + now it sits, all cleaned + oiled beside the 4 SKS's + the Lee Enfield you bought last year.
I bet there's lots of them out there that don't get their barrels warmed up too often.
I think I'd go with the full length 91/30. The shorter , flame thrower types take great pictures at dusk , but that's not really my thing. Guess I'll watch the "EE" for a while for one with a nice shiny bore , and get a feel for the prices. Frosting belongs on cakes , not in rifles.
 
I have more than one and they ALL get used on a regular basis, be it for hunting or plinking.

Why hesitate? They are inexpensive, easy to clean and the ammo is dirt cheap !!!
 
i didn't like them till my wife bought me one. now i shoot it all the time. it's a cheap bolt action to shoot. looking to get another to mount my repro scope too.
 
These rifles are worth every penny. Pick one up for under $175, crate of ammo under $225 and your off to the races. Tons of fun and it makes a half decent deer rifle too. If your around Winnipeg I'll borrow u one to try.
 
If it was good enough to defend Russia, it's good enough for Canadian shooters. For $200 and under (shooter grade) you really can't go wrong.
I've never seen anything short of a smile when people pull the trigger for the first time... that's priceless.

I have two Mosins.....the great thing about them is the price . Even if you never use it , you still have a tough as nails camp or truck gun ; it is a lot of rifle for very little money.....plus they have alot of history . I often look at my two and think if only these rifles could talk ; what a story they could tell........
 
Don't do it man...

First you get a 91/30, because, hey? a full powered rifle with cheap ammo for $175? Why not?

Then you get out and shoot the thing, and it occurs to you that its a well made, fairly accurate rifle, that packs a whallop. But maybe it's a bit long...

So you start poking around and grab an M44, and a couple extra crates of ammo while your at it, because you need to feed the thing.

And Hey! This short, full powered rifle, is kinda handy, I might even use it for a bush gun. And that fireball is awesome! I wonder if it would be a bit more quick handling if I got an M38, without the bayo on the front end, it might just be a bit quicker and easier to handle... And maybe I should pick up a spare one to tinker with and maybe scope...

This 54R stuff is kinda the bomb. Might want to get an SVT-40 for some semi auto mag fed fun.... And a few more crates of ammo...


Before you know it, your cabinet is full of the things, half your garage is full of crates of surplus ammo, your wife is constantly asking you to bathe to get that surplus cosmo stink off of you... Your friends start giving you the evil eye and whispering words like "prepper" and "gun crazy" behind your back... And you start planning your weekends around getting time in to try some 1000 metre volley fire practice with some unwashed Mosin guys you met at the range...
 
I've been shooting SKS since the early eighties, the novelty has not warn off yet.


As for Mosin, its a beautiful old rifle that will knock down any big game animal we have. Apart from being collectable for a good price, the entire line of rifles that shoot 7.62x54r can be found. One bullet fits all, what more can a guy want? I do a lot of bush hunting and take at least one animal per season with my Mosin.

Each to their own, but Mosin suites me fine.
 
Mosin is one of my favorites and I never get tired of it. The sks is good but it's a different type of animal. Get the Mosin and an absorber for the recoil. Being a bolt action, you don't tend to need scads of ammo like I do with the SKS. I am also a fan of the Swiss K31, but that is a price point above the Mosin. Get a Mosin and start working the tree of milsurp bolt rifles.
