On the hunt for 44-40

I am all set up for casting. Bullets I wasn’t worried about as I always have a few made. I did search for my 180 gr wadcutters just to try a few when I get more cases. So far I found that the largest bullet I can use is 0.428, anything larger won’t fit in the cylinders.

I have wanted a revolving carbine for a few years and other stuff kept getting in the way. I bought a Heritage Rancher and really enjoyed it and thought I need another. I decided on the 44-40 as I didn’t have that caliber yet. I was thinking 45 Colt or 357 magnum also but have multiple guns in those calibers and I wanted something different. What I didn’t realize is that currently there is lack of cases at dealers. I have bought some used cases so hopefully they will be here next week along with a die set.

This might as well be the entire thread, no brass or loaded ammo has been available in any regular quantities since early 2021. It's a scrounger's game for the time being if you want to shoot 44-40 and aren't already sitting on a decent stash - I've seen used brass sell north of $1/pc in the past few months.

There was a Guy near my Tables at the March Chilliwack Gun Show with a large Box of 44-40. Could not give it away, still had it when we all packed up.

Cheers

New brass is coming in. It sells quickly so you have to keep checking. Phrophet River had some but sold out quickly. I see scalpers have it on the EE and GP for well above what they bought it for.
Since I started this thread I have found probably 600 pieces of brass from the EE and local. I had my ad on the EE up under 2 weeks which I bought 400 from 3 members here. A local gun shop had 50 used for $20. It’s hard to find but is out there.
