On the hunt for Jewel grade walnut

I don't think PB is going to work anymore. They changed their TOS and you are no longer allowed to link your photos to third party sites, unless you pay money for a account.

Time to stop using PB. I just started using imagur

Angus, I like the second block from the top for this rifle... with the tighter grain pattern it will show up better on this slender, whispy stock design.

I like that one too but may use it "backwards" for grain flow, as it'll be a rather rough duty little überlight rifle.

That wood gave me wood.

I was thinking the same thing about the second blank...the flow is kinda backwards but then I looked at the floor tile and decided that they're pretty healthy sized blanks. Do you think that you could get two rifle blanks out of the top one? Might be tight but you could get a fine looking matched pair out of it if you had the room.

Top top one is big enough for a full sized rifle / one piece indeed, so could easily get two maybe three No.1 / shotgun two piece sets (especially so if English shotgun stocks), or four little stock sets like the one I have in mind out of it. I'm of the mind to take a 1/2" board off and make a pistol case or some form of furniture my wife won't understand, as it's plenty thick to do so and remain stable in carving the stocks out of what's left. Such a beautiful pattern it could be pretty special in a large dimension board as the top of something.

Side note very tempted after this rifle to get another Hagn micro action done and do a little .410 single shot. Matched pair to the 5.6x50 Mag could be interesting. You're getting me off track have to remember I have three kids now, will see what I can get done.

Those blanks are some very very nice pieces. That second from the top one is a marvel. If like to see the depth of contrast up close for sure.

You've for taste Angus, there is no doubt about that.

The idea of a little Savage Hi power in a Martini mini is very nice. Just a wee little wandering around rifle.

I've always imagined a mini single in 38-55 would be fun for walk abouts.

 That site has become a royal PIA. Is there another site around offering similar photo options that could be accessed?

Anyone have any leads on walnut far beyond exhibition? I want to outdo this piece on this next job, I'll be stocking my Hagn mini project. I decided beauty is weight worth carrying. Contacted all the regular blank suppliers I've dealt with, eBay too etc, but nothing is grabbing me as other worldly yet. Anyone have a line on one in a million black or Bastogne? It can be thin, an instrument blank would work as the stock will be very slender.

There is a gentleman in the Ottawa On area by the name of Matt Renke I believe, he is a custom stick builder and can get his hands on some real nice wood. He may be worth looking up, good luck Ardent

Any idea as to how or what the procedure is?? Or, who to contact for direction how to go about it?? You have to keep in mind, with my coming from the pre metric era, technology and I haven't exactly moved ahead at the same pace.
