Fair enough.

Set looks good, but it looks a bit high and you need a chin lifter under the snare to make the dog lift its head before going in. Most dogs walk with their head and chin down so you need to get them to lift it into the snare. Thats probably why you had so many misses.

Just break off a stick and stick it in the snow just below the snare or angle it in from the side of the trail. The stick should come to 1 inch or so below the bottom of the snare.
 
Kenny thanks for the info....... I think part of the problem also is I may not be making the loops big enough. After seeing where the snare was located on the one I caught if figured it should have been further back than it was.....

On the chin lifters I was not sure if I should have used a stick underneath. Regardless they are set at what they are till next weekend.........

Another plus with a power snare over a traditional is you do not need a standing tree to make a set. You an make a base out of a peice of angle iron with a spike welded to it. Hammer the base in the ground and push the loop over the upright of the angle iron. Or as long as you have a piece of cattail or burdox along the trail you can wire the spring to make an easy set.......

where I am using them if there is a dog around they DO NOT deserve to be alive. They are a LONG way from home...........

Not to many people with dogs around.

Couple misses again. Hopefully I have that issue resolved now. Put a small stick across the trail just under the snare. Hopefully 1 or 2 more by the weekend.

5 snares, 9 days 1 fox and 2 yotes........ I think the waste trimmings from my whitetail are working very well....
 
I have used both the traditional and the power snare and both have there points. As for a quick kill with the power snare, I have seened them last over an hour in the snare( both coyote and wolfe). I believe that the power snare is more dangerous to use due to the spring set up and becareful if you are using your inner legs to set the spring up, if it slips,%&*#^%&^!5 ouch. I ususally use one foot on one side and slide the other down my shin bone until the safety is hooked and do not bend over as you are doing this as it might be your last. They are easier to set up on trails in open prairie trails compared to traditional but I hate carring all that extra weight and sleighs when travelling. Try get some bait from local butcher shop and make some bait piles and set up on their trails.

$250 for a trappers course! I guess that's a money grab. Let me guess, it's some sort of Association that runs it & takes the money. Kinda like the Turkey Hunter course? I remember the good old days when trappers license was $10 & available to anyone without any kind of course.

Trappers license in MB................................ $5.00.....

Not sure if one went to buy one today you need to show proof of taking the course or not. As long as you had previously held the license you just go buy a new one........ :^)

Yeah... 250... Then you have to buy your license... As for the turkey course now you can get a dvd and get screwed in the comfort of your own home for 35 bucks... But you have to go out to take the test...

just bumping this one up and wondering if you got out this weekend so far? i'll be contacting Ram Connection (is this where you ordered yours?) for snares on monday.
