One rifle, one cartridge, one load for everything

Marlin 336 in .30-30. Hard to beat something that has worked well for 130 years when the marlin 1893 came out.

Any 30-30.
As it's been for over a 100 years.
It drops everything

Yup ....drops game right out to 150yds. You're outa luck after that.

A fellow I used to hunt with called the 30-30 "The Sharp Stick" because if you walked out to the edge of a clear cut with a 30-30 and there was a deer standing 300yds away on the other side, you might as well be standing there with a sharp stick. He was right.

I'll take a 30-06 with a 165 or 180gr bullet anytime.

If someone thinks an accurately placed .30-30 round isn’t lethal at 300 yards… well let’s just say I won’t volunteer to test that in the receiving end.

Whether the shooter can make that shot, understands the likely bullet drop, etc is another matter.

All true on both points.

i have a whole herd of 30-06 guns, from Sauers and Blasers and a pre-64 or two. Boring, but they work.
If I had just one gun to work with; well let's just say that would be a terrible dilemna! I feel the 375's are likely the best fit for a globe trotting hunter, and I use a couple of them too. One very overlooked caliber that I have a special affection for is the .358 Norma. It really reaches out with authority, and I wouldn't hesitate to even use it in Africa as an all-around.

First choice would be one of my custom builds in a 35Whelen and 225 grain Bearclaws. Second choice is my Sako 85 SS in 270Win with plain old Powershock 130s.
