One round to hunt the world? 375 Ruger!

I feel the same... love moose hunting, but I have taken alot of moose and spend most of my falls guiding for them... tags are tough these days, so I can't count on a bull tag... so I have taken the "bull by the horns" and planned a few out of province hunts for 2020.

For me, Mr. Moose was my intro and first big game animal hunt experience. Money then was a little at tight that point in time :). So, Moose hunting served two purposes. Moose hunting was not only a recreation but also served to fill the deep freeze for winter months ahead. ;) I have a 'few' more treasures in the safe these days, but then, a Simpon-Sears ;) sporterized Lee Enfield was the tool of the day. :)NO regrets :d.

Moose hunting is best done with the NEW KING :dancingbanana:

Ppfffttt... .375 Ruger is an unnecessary waste of lead, when a little, pointy stick can do the trick.

:)Nice! Very nice. My Cybertec and tree stand set-up has worked well at farms close by for island Blacktail. Haven't gone after anything the size of Mr. Moose with the sharp pointy things,;)yet. Right rotator cuff problem better so should be able to get back into form with the Ultratec and Cybertec in prep for this fall.

Nice bulls and great pics!
A good moose hunt is second to none. The sound of a bull grunt as he answers a call is priceless. Hunting them here is becoming harder and harder with the long draw waits. We can usually sneak in a few days of general archery before the season closes. Helps to scratch the itch.

I've had better luck using a cow call.

One of the first animals shot in Canada with the NEW KING was a nice black bear. It was 2007 and todbartell had sourced me one of two Rugers that were in Canada. The rife arrived with one box of ammo (back then NEW KING ammo was new and hard to find, unlike now) and dies were on there way but not there yet, IIRC I used a 300 RUM die to size it and a 375 H&H die to seat a 260 Nosler Accubond. The details of how I made the load escape me now,but I do know that I had the NEW KING in my truck and went to a big party wedding and stayed overnight. On the way home I took a quick detour up a forest road and spotted a nice bear. After a short stalk the bear was facing me in a perfect position and I did an end to end shot on him. He dropped like a sack of hammers and was easy to roll into the truck!

260 NAB went from one end to the other, bullet was found on under the skin on the rump

Funny i use the 260 accubond in my Rum. Have yet to recover a bullet. I do buy a lot of 375 projectile when i see it cheap. Maybe i can find a projectile that doesnt penetrate for the Rum. Bought a mold, sizing set ups, going to try making some gallery loads for the Rum....popper loads with Unique or Trail boss?

Had a identical rifle to mine, spun off the barrel, rebarreled with a 300 rum barrel. Still have the extra 375 rum barrel, super low round count. Picked up extra brass, 5 boxes of Ammo cheaper than the cost of brass. So have a extra barrel, tonnage of projectile, and 250 brass. Enough to use my rifle selling shots to tourists if i wanted....cue dancing bananas.

Met my wife, moved to a gulf island populated by lilliputian blacktail.

Perhaps i should start a opposite thread to the usual 223 rem for Moose troll. Shot a few mulies with the Rum, Moose of course. Have Charlie Peelings 416 rigby, he used it to take a Dall ram. Have yet to blow off a quarter with these overbore magnums, or hamburger anything with Texas heart shots. Five km over the strait is covered in Bears, i really have no interest in targeting them. My inspiration for buying the Rum was Moose hunting, having lost a Moose to a opportunistic Grizzly, i felt under gunned with my 300 Weatherby.

Yet another rambling post, or musings of a insomniac.

Thoughts on gallery loads for .375's.

It's a new article about a new successful hunting cartridge. As this is the "hunting and sporing arms" forum, it seemed appropriate to post here, as this is where we discuss hunting cartridges. Unfortunately, some people have come to this thread not to discuss the cartridge, but to just be negative and to "disturb the dust."

Hopefully we can get back to discussing the fantastic success of the 375 Ruger, a truly innovative cartridge of great merit.

I got bored with new kids on the block when I was a kid and they were becoming "cool." My attitude extends in most aspects of life, as it does with the latest, greatest cartridge design. I adopt the position "whatever floats your boat" but claiming a cartridge is better for hunting must be substantiated by one fact alone: does it kill the animal better and the answer is no. This is not to detract from the fact that the 375Ruger is an appropriate round for dangerous game... but like all other dangerous game rounds, <100yards is the typical range and nothing dedicated to the purpose can be argued to be more effective. However, the one thing the Ruger has the H&H doesn't is slight cartridge case taper... a feature that was and still is desirable in a repeater where a follow up shot might someday be necessary to prevent being trampled or eaten. Early British shells have much more case taper so that extraction is never going to be difficult. The odds of it being a problem can be debated, but my first choice for dangerous game is the 416 Rigby: has plenty of case taper and compromising on one global hunting rifle is like compromising with summer tires for all year... or compromising with leftards on "acceptable" gun control: you can't.
