It's random... but over a huge sample size... somewhere out there is a group of six that all drew tags the past two years... which is why Ontario's allocation system is unfair... it should be based on preference points.

About a 1 in 3 chance at a tag in 42, but there are 6 of us and we got 0 tags.

I agree completely, both for deer and moose... and I wouldn't shed any tears if party hunting went away either.
Woah fella...... Party hunting is my favorite part of Ontario deer hunting...... I am way more successful during the second week when I am by myself, but I love the comraderie at camp and digging up the meat we worked hard to harvest...... I would greatly miss it if party hunting was gone....
Yes sir!!! You can't beat a week of deer hunting with your buddies!! It's a yearly tradition and about so much more than the actual hunting itself.
If you want to share a camp with your pals, no problem. I have no issue with that at all. But when you fill your tag you should stop carrying a rifle. Every hunter fills his own tag and nobody else's, that's what I mean by no party hunting.
For moose hunting, when you could have up to 15 hunters out to fill a single tag, the odds are much higher that that tag will be filled than if you had one hunter trying to fill one tag. If you lower the success rate, it makes it possible to issue more tags.
For deer hunting, the possibility of one hunter shooting multiple deer and filling everybody else's tags never seemed right to me. Every camp seems to have a few guys that never fill a tag or even see a deer; if you want to carry on hunting go sit with them and give them some pointers.
