Ontario Deer hunters

Taken Friday at noon in pouring rain. Temp 19C. He was following 2 does. Shot with my 358 Win at about 80 yards. Ran 100 yards and collapsed on our dirt road - very convenient I was still hunting on the ground.

Well, for the first time ever, my camp was shut out.

Low pops (we knew this beforehand) and just godawful deer hunting weather (20C....seriously?).

Hundreds of man hours spent in the bush and only 4 sightings with no shot opportunities.

A few of us are going to give it a go next weekend again, but im not expecting much. At least the weather will be closer to normal.

Monday was a bust for our group. Tuesday morning around 7am a buck walked across in front of me about 90 yards. But there was way too much stuff in the way. At 730 he came back behind me. I took the shot and down he went.

Later that evening we decided to go to a bush that's flooded. We didn't have high hopes in seeing anything. At 5pm I heard crunching in the cedars then a few minutes later out pops a good size yearling... I decided to pass. At that moment I heard more movement in the cedars and out pops a big doe. She spots me right away. All while I had my phone in my hand video taping the other deer.. I slowly slid the phone in the pocket and raised the gun, she dropped on the spot aswell! what a pita getting it out of there.

One other deer sighting all week. Saturday morning our group and another group who hunt the Same bush(it's a big private forest) us were rudely interrupted by a gang of 10 guys pushing the entire forest at 7am!! Yes 7 am! I didn't see the two diggers but my buddy lost his cool on the one asking what he was doing and all he said was ' I have 10 guys at the end of the bush' totally ignored my buddy when he told him he was trespassing and others guys down where he was heading, my buddies father had the other guy walk under his stand.

we packed it in then and there on our way down the road we saw the other hunters who hunt the same bush. We pulled into the lane way and same thing happened to them! They ignored the other hunters were were losing their cool but the morons kept pushing. they went right through and into another owners end of the bush.

No respect!

On Monday I got wind from a police friend that he was called to a house were 9 guys pulled up in vans and walked through a guys front lawn into the forest. Guess the guy was home and called the police who then contacted the mnr. Three of the guys had no licenses and two of them were visiting Portugal. Guess the mnr laid a few fines and my buddy did aswell. First I heard of a trespassing law being used!

Now I am excited to get out with the bow. Hopefully the rut kicks in

Yesterday lots moving, numerous shots from the surrounding areas too. Our group harvested another buck and doe. This morning, crisp, cool, clear, nothing.

Here is a nice doe we got from 46. Nice double lung shot. She ran about 30M.

I had another deer do some Matrix moves on me in the heavy brush. :( I got off 3 rounds with the M305, while the deer was running past me.

Just got back from a week in 43a. 1 doe for 10 guys with one doe being wounded and not retrieved. Very, very quiet in the area. I saw quite a bit of coyote scat so that may have something to do with it or it can just be a cycle that nature is going through in this area.

Going home empty this year. Couple of mature bucks on trail cam but no show during the day. Passed on a Spike three weeks ago and this morning I had a doe circle me in my treestand... No antlerless tag this year so she gets to walk away as well.

No biggie... Private land so there's no pressure for me to tag out.

Looking forward to next year's spring bear hunt thou. We have at least one on trail cam so time to plan my strategy.

Goes about 200lbs. Not as big as I thought he was, but a very nice buck.
He made a mistake.
He had a schedule. He returned almost to the minute to the same crossing I saw him at during the moose hunt, two weeks later, when he was legal.
