Well after years of controlled hunting with shotgun, I got out with a .270 M700 and Leupold VX-3L 3.5 x 10 x 50mm last season and shot a beauty.

What are other deer hunters out and about with this fall? My .243s will blow the eye off a housefly at 200 yds (while aiming specifically at the eye :). Any successful .243 hunters out there ?

For those who would otherwise comment, take shot placement out of this equation-e.g. do not respond.

A new to me LH Browning Abolt Medallion in 270 that is unfired but was made in 1992 and a LH Remington BDL in 243. Still need some glass for the Browning but the Remington wears a Burris FFII.

Traditions buckstalker 50 cal muzzle loader with 3-9x40 bushnell scope. If I could get in on another deer hunt where I could use a centerfire it would be 2506 with a 6-24x42 or my double in 4570 with a 2.5x20 bsa

A model 7600 in 25-06 with Leupold VXIII 1.75-6x32mm Heavy Duplex for sitting on watch..Fast hadling for hunting with hounds...

A Ruger 44 Dearfield with Leupold VXIII 1.5-5x20mm Heavy Duplex for chasing...

A Ruger #1 25-06 with Leupold VX-3 2.5-8x36mm when I sit in a stand..

Rossi Pomba .308 with a Bushnell 1.5-4x30.

Single shots hold a special place in my heart...theres just something about looking through that scope and knowing you have 1 shot to get it right.

Hard to argue with that combo (I would lose the big 50mm scope but that's just preference)

I let my Dad use my lightweight .270 now because he's not very fit (and he shot two deer with it last year) so I carry a heavier Savage Bolt gun which was successful last year while barreled in 6.5-06......I decided on a 25-06 Ackley improved Barrel for this year's hunt just for the hell of it.

The backup is a Tikka M-65 6.5x55...also a better truck gun since the Savage has a 25" barrel !

About the .243, I have one that I bought for my wife but Ive never gotten her out hunting yet. I wouldnt' hesitate to use it. I have a nifty loaded worked up for it using 100gr. Sierra game kings.

marlin 45-70 with EO- tec red dot and ghost ring sights for back up, (rain/snow).
backup 2- 243 win rem 700 sps barrel cut to 20 " with bushnell trophy 3-10
otehr backup mosberg 500 pump with fibre optic sights slug barrel.

IF I can get the scope mounted in time, I'll probably use my Husky 9.3mm, at least for a while. Scope will be a fixed 4x leupold. If not, then a .270 with a 3-9. My favourite 7x57 is at the smithy's; doesn't look like it'll be ready in time :(

I will be using my winchester 94 in 32 special , because 30-30 just isn't enough gun

That and my new to me Remington 7600 270 win with a 3x9 hand me down scope that has been shooting very nicely

Going really old school Fudd this year and taking up 4 bush guns (can't make up my mind and will probably end up doing Enie Meanie Mynie Moe each morning before heading off into the bush with the gang.

Winchester 1910 in .401WSL from 1917
Remington Model 14 pump in .35 Rem
Remington Model 8 in .35 Rem from 1908
Marlin 1889 in .44-40 from 1891

For the tower stand where you can have 200-300 yard shots, a minty 1943 Lithgow Lee Enfield No.1 Mk III* to reach out and touch them.

All I need to do now is to find some modern Fudd wear. Orange/black plaid jacket and hat!

Too many to choose from. 25-06, 260, 280, or maybe the newest to my group, 7mm STW. Probably settle with the 260, it's a pleasure to carry and it'll flatten them with the best of them. No room to really stretch the legs of the STW where I hunt deer.

Winchester 1910 in .401WSL from 1917
Remington Model 14 pump in .35 Rem

live ~20 min. north of Kingston & hunt in WMU 67 on 1000 acres near Westport. I just got all 4 within the last 6 months and haven't shot any of them yet.

I have detail stripped and cleaned each and they are all in very good condition. I have all of the reloading stuff for the 1910 but we just had our second daughter last week and private time has been very limited. Hope to get some rounds off with each in early September.

I was just about to pick up a nice 1907 but my line of credit told me to calm the F@ck down!
