Ha! I've got my own woods now, bucko. King of the forest over here.
Lovely. Enjoy hiking it. Or poaching it. Whichever tagless activity tickles your fancy…

This is why we've lost so many guns over the years in this country. Guys just meekly smiling and shrugging their shoulders in an effort to get along. "Oh well, it's fine" "What's the big deal" "It's only 2 minutes/2 weeks/ select variants..."
I would be willing to bet that 100% of the guys who like the idea of making this survey mandatory and subject to punishment, also voted for Andrew Scheer.
Even if I had of bought a tag this year, I wouldn't have taken anything. The gypsy moths are tearing through this area badly, and I'm spending my winter scraping egg clusters off of oak trees to try and salvage the nut drop next year. That and you can't swing a dead politician around here without hitting a coyote. Heck, between carrying our scheduled feeding program throughout the winter, tackling invasives (gypsy moths, buckthorn ect) and tick sweeping the trails, I do more darn forest work than any of these pension-seeking chumps.
I stopped filling this out, when the government decided to be too terrible for too long, effectively tearing up the social contract. Between the McWyntty regime then and the Trudeau regime now, I'm going to drag my heels and disagree on every single issue these bureaucrats dream up.
Stand your ground, you nancies. Stop giving all our damn rights away, one inch at a time. It must be a generational thing or something. As you age, you just become more willing to give up................... (that's not provcative at all, eh?)
It's a matter of heavenly compulsion. I don't make the rules, I just follow themResistance for resistance’s sake is foolish.
If you can't seperate game management and gun control you don't belong in the woods or even on a hunting forum.
It doesn't cost you anything if you fill out the report.
The penalties were always planned, they just gave hunters a couple years grace to get used to filling them out. Before making it mandatory they mailed out surveys randomly... not everybody got one, but you still had to fill it out. Making it mandatory for everybody who buys a licence gives them better data.
Making people do things that they do not want to do,
Ok, so here are my questions:
What reasons are there that would convince people to not want to help the MNR manage the resources ?
What is the down side to providing information about animal sightings, days afield, etc?
My take on this topic is this. I have always co-operated with MNR on surveys, end of season trap line reports etc. That is not the issue the issue is being asked to assist in gathering info to enhance fish/game management (who would not want to assist/help?) Then being told if you don't assist/help you will be fined and/or prevented from buying a game seal in the following year. As stated elsewhere how accurate is the gathered information when it is gathered under duress? Of course making a false statement is also an offence. For years I faithfully completed and mailed in my optional cardboard surveys I was mailed under no threat of punishment. Why is it now we have the threat? If this is how the MNR is attempting to build cooperative relationships with sport hunters I feel it is wrong headed. Needles to say not submitting a report is like shooting yourself in the foot. I will continue to submit my reports but under protest.

Hi GreenBob
I get that part of it. I always mailed in the paper survey as well. Most guys I know also did, but obviously some do not.
I didn't and don't take the new regulation as a "Threat of punishment".
Yes I could be fined $25 or not be able to buy a license if I do not send in my survey.
So I send in my survey. I take it as "its part of doing business if I want to hunt"
I apply that same logic to a lot of other facets of my life; examples...
I can get fined if I speed, so I do not; conversely I can get fined if I do not buy vehicle insurance, so I do.
There's lots of people who speed and do not have insurance and they sometimes get fined.
That's the path they chose to take, I chose the other path. I do not see this a "shrugging my shoulders and giving in".
Others are welcome to see it their way, not comply, and I am ok with that. Just don't be critical of me choosing to comply.
There's lots more similar examples. So I don't take it as a personal threat, I take it as "this is part of going hunting" (or driving)
I get what you are saying and no one is being critical of you. Not that it make any difference, but I also have mailed in the paper survey over the years and done the online one as well.
The underlining issue is not doing the work or reporting. The underlining issue is how they are attempting to do it. Stop mandating that people to do X and start convincing and explaining why people should be doing X.

I suggest you take a read through the following article. While an opinion it does highlight some of the issues Ontario in general is having regarding moose populations. Fact is I, and many other Ontarians believe MNR have been mismanaging for a while.
https://www.sudbury.com/columns/the...lling-and-i-have-pretty-good-idea-why-4505878
We border the province of Quebec, yet for every 2 moose hunters 1 moose can be harvested there.

Fact is these reports don't do squat but punish hunters who don't fill them out. What's stopping anyone from lying and saying they'd seen 35 moose in their week long hunt?
The MNR should do their jobs and manage our resources properly rather than scream and cry they don't have enough funding.
