Calling Ontario Moose Hunters.

The machine persists to get rid of the Ontario Moose Hunt. I honestly feel that I will see the demise of the hunt within my lifetime.

No tags to be had anywhere, except north of north. (based on last years quotas)

This year we expect worse.

So what's everyone doing? Our gang is sitting at a stalemate right now on what to do.

We like to hunt Temagami area. We have 12 hunters, 15 Pool 1 entries and cannot get a tag. (Disgusting)

I go to moose camp every year. I have watched our tags dwindle from 3 to 2 and last year 1 for 8 hunters. For the last 3 years I have not uncased my rifle. Spend a very enjoyable week hunting waterfowl and grouse. I also get the last of the late season walleyes and northerns. I might buy a bear tag for this year. I have to agree the moose hunt in Ontario has become elusive to say the least.

Maybe hunt bears and help out the moose for the next few years?

Interesting. You're thinking the bears are having an affect. (And not that I'm disagreeing completely)

I'd find it easier to believe that wolves/coyotes are more detrimental to young moose than bears. Especially in the winter months where food is more scarce, but bears are sleeping for the most part.

I've personally witnessed NO decline in moose populations from everything I've witnessed in the past decade.

I think the biggest detriment to the hunt is socialist governments. I've requested info on how the studies are done from the MNR. After reading their tripe, I don't even know why they bother. That's a complete waste of time. They survey less than half of huntable WMU's, and basically do a fly-by with some clown trying to count them.

Based on the budget they have for this research, they can't be in the air more than a few hours.

Same thing around the park way more moose and a lot less deer ,yet just try to get a moose tag around the park ,lol .I would love to do a elk hunt instead of moose ,Dutch

I'm on the fence on whether I'll continue going or not. I still enjoy being outdoors for the week, but may have to reconsider whether or not its worth going.

As the tags decreased we moved progressively further North... we continue to receive tags but have to drive a long way to do it... we are moving again this year... if we strike out on a bull tag we will buy bear tags and hunt birds/bears & fish for walleye.... either way, we will be out there... if I could not hunt and could not fish, I would still be out there...

I have heard more deer means less moose. Apparently there is a gem within the deer droppings that makes the moose sick. I remember reading that somewhere. I think though with the last 2 cold winters the deer pop in the area I go to to hunt has even affect the deer. I do see a lot more coyotes.
