Ontario Outdoors card

Still hard to swallow that they outsourced our licensing to the US.

I work with the Crown and the contract winner is the lowest bidder that meets the criteria set out in the request for proposal. If a Canadian company could have done it for a lower price while meeting the criteria then it would have stayed in Canada.

Still doesn't feel right that the government is that quick to outsource. Hope it was a substantial savings vs creating/keeping jobs here.

It's not that simple. You send out a RFP with a closing date and all proposals must be submitted on time. There is a website that lists all of the RFPs currently out which people monitor for contracts that they can likely fill. Some companies attend the bidder meeting to see what the job is about and never bid. I have attended meetings with five or so other companies being represented and we were the only bidder. It's possible to win contracts this way if no one else is interested.

The government is looking to pay the least for each contract, as a taxpayer this is in your interest. Though sometimes the lowest bidder can lead to other issues such as substandard building construction. You should be more upset that there isn't a company in Canada able to do this work or do it for less then the US company.

The company doing this job in the USA does it for several states which is where the cost savings come in. I suspect we already know how much it costs; we are paying the $2 fee on each transaction.

Two sides to every coin. Not trying to start a pi$$ing match just sharing my outlook.
Way I see it is by outsourcing to the US all funds are gone...money goes south of the boarder and that's that. If the contract was kept in Canada even if there was an increase in cost the money is still here. It can now cycle back into the system through taxes and such. Like I said before I'm just sharing my thoughts. I understand there is probably a lot more to it but that the basic idea as I see it.

Just ordered my outdoor card with 3 year small game on Monday. Was a little confusing at first but once you see it in the cart everything should check out. Normally do by phone but wanted the paper copy in case card is delayed and I want to hunt coyotes in January.

I don't think the new ones have a T as well he rules changed after your renewal...... I have my new one on the way and will post when it arrives

I just called the Ministry to confirm. The T is no longer printed on the cards. As of January 2017, the turkey license is not required as it's now incorporated into the Hunters Safety course. You'll need small game and turkey tags though.

howto: picture heavy

Here is a step by step howto to renew Ontario Outdoors card with 3 year small game and fishing online.

I did mine this morning and took screen shots as I went, then annotated them from memory afterwards. I missed a spot you have to click on the 'Confirm or enter personal information' page. There is a check boox you have to click to accept the terms. I scribbled out step 12 because I think I added that unnecessarily and you go to the next screen as soon as you click the renewal link in step 11. Sorry, I forgot to grab the bottom half of the payment page, but it's where you enter your credit card details and there may have also been other forms of payment accepted but I don't recall.

Nice... but with that much free time, go to the range... ;)
LOL, the only reason I was at the computer this morning is due to the major blast of winter weather here. It was -24C this morning with 2 feet of mostly fresh snow n the ground. If it wasn't for that I'd have been out hunting; today is the last day here for archery deer and partridge. I did dig out my snowshoes last night but couldn't see myself busting new trails wearing and carrying all my hunting gear only to freeze, especially since I am hurting all over from the shoveling. Maybe I'll go out back with my bow for a couple of hours this afternoon but otherwise my hunting season ends, not with a bang but with a whimper. :)

I don't know where you are at, but drive down south of the Severn and extend that season to the end of the year...

I have done that in the past but discovered this spring while planning a turkey hunt that you have to be an OFAH member to hunt the Simcoe County Forests and some of their tracts are the only spots I know that would be close enough to be worthwhile. I let my OFAH membership lapse years ago after it seemed to me they spent all the money on a pricey new HQ, started sending me crappy unsolicited gifts and junk mail to ask for donations, and were ineffective lobbying to prevent the long gun registry. I was thinking about joining again just to hunt in SCF tracts but didn't get around to it yet.

If you do it by phone, I think you can get the membership sans magazine for less. I have an OFAH membership for the reasons you state. I live in Orillia so most of the tracts are close enough. I hunt turkeys in Oro-Medonte on private land abutting 200 acres of Simcoe County Forest but I used hunt them on county land. I hunt county land and crown land in the county for deer, small game and waterfowl so I still keep the OFAH membership. Another bonus is the insurance which is something the landowner appreciates.

Simcoe County has a map of all crown and county land on their website...

I may have sat on some of the same stumps as you...

Sault Ste. Marie perchance? They got a good winter thrashing... and the North side bird season date is right... we just caught the edge of the same storm.

No, farther south and east, to the east of Georgian Bay. Wouldn't be surprised if the Soo up to Wawa has similar lake effect snow squall weather. Looks like on their radar they're getting some right now. Here we had snow squalls for 3 days straight until a cold front came in last night and shifted the winds from the NW. When that happens the snow heads south to Orillia and Barrie. And at the moment, there's another huge squall blowing off Lake Huron all the way down to the big smoke. TO's almost paralyzed.
