Ontario transfer times

Just got my transfer approved Friday (14th NOV) that I initiated 27 OCT.

Far far too long. What are they checking? PAL....check....therefore no criminal record...check....transfer firearm as legally permitted. Should take 10 minutes.
 
They are not checking anything, the transfer is just sitting there on their system while they play domino.

My transfer started Oct 31st is yet to be approved.

Called the CFO today, the conversation went like this:
Me: Hi I am calling in regards transfer ###XX
CFO: Hello, sir, let me check that for you...( NOTE: this was a man and not the usual receptionist like last time I called, that time, the receptionist acted as a filter and quickly ignored my request telling me to call back in about 5 days because they had 'a backlog')
Me: ok
CFO: oh it looks like it has been in the system for way to long. I can see there are no problems with your file nor the transfer so I do not understand why it is taking so long...Let me me double check with my supervisor.
ME: ...yes thank you...
(1 min after)
CFO: ok Sir, this will be approved later today. You will receive a note by email.

So, long story short, call the CFO directly, not the 0-800 where you are going to get a 'robot type answer'.

For some reason when I am transferred from the 0800 they pick up fairly quickly. It is not the case if you dial direct.
 
[edit Nov 21] Hurray, finally approved!

I've been waiting on a transfer since Nov 3. I talked to the Ontario CFO yesterday and they said they were only working on transfers from Oct 31 and I could expect another week before mine is done.

Except they already requested proof of membership from my club (which apparently they do??) and received it by fax last week. So they've looked at my transfer request, and they're blowing smoke right up my butt.

And thanks, chinamon, for posting that info. I've been getting through to the CFO by calling the CFP and getting transferred. Takes a while that way. Also if you get their answering machine, just leave a message. CFO has at least been good about calling me back. You can leave your transfer reference # and full name in the message so they can look up your info before calling you back. Just speeds up your life a little.
