Blacklisted by whom ??

Do you really believe his office calls the CFO's office and says " hey, so John Smith complained that you guys are talking too long. Please look into this" ?

That's not how it works

Correct.

This picture shows how the Ontario Ombudsman processes complaints...............and should clear up any confusion why things in Ontario work the way
they do BTW ;)

It depends on your definition of success. I filed a complaint with the Ontario Ombudsman's Office and they got back to me to ask for more info fairly quickly. They contacted me again recently to inquire if I had received my transfer and I had. They also told me they are aware that the transfer delays at the Ontario CFO office have been a chronic problem and that's what they want to look into. They have said that they have had complaints from many people and not just from this spring/summer.

So, will complaining to the ombudsman's office get your transfer approved faster? probably not but it also wont hurt.

They are looking into the chronic delays though and the more people's stories they have the better.

I suggest everyone experiencing delays to file a complaint.

The person handling my complaint at the Ontario Ombudsman's Office called me back again today. He stated that he had a conversation with a manager at the Ontario CFO office.

The information he relayed to me:
- CFO office has authorized overtime to deal with the backlog which they weren't able to authorize before
- They are in the process of bringing on new staff which might not be until the end of the summer
- The CFO office staff are provincial employees but the program is funded by the federal government.
- The backlog is a result of staffing issues and increased demand for restricted firearms.
- CFO office performs some kind of background check on you at time of transfer (this didn't seem very clear to me but there was mention of courts and police... i dunno)
- Variation in the time it takes to process transfers depends on the individual, someone with many restricted transfers previously approved may be fast tracked.
- Because its federal funding, need to complain to federal government to properly fund program
- Others should file complaints if they are experiencing delays as Ombudsman's Office wants to continue to track the problem

so, action items:
- Continue to file complaints if you are experiencing delays
- Complain to federal government about funding? (Would this be Public Safety?)

Great info and feedback from the Ombudsman's office.
