Ontario Transfer Wait Times?

Transfer initiated Dec 4 from Ont retailer. Phoned yesterday and the RCMP lady said that it is with the Ont CFO. Also said that the transfers are running at 3 weeks. So it looks like I won't be getting a Christmas present this year. Must have been naughty sometime this year.

What is the Industry doing about this ridiculous wait time when the wait time in Manitoba is 1 or 2 days?
I'm sure that retailers are pretty ticked off about this. But I don't think they'd get much sympathy complaining to a Liberal government (provincial and federal). The buying and selling of firearms is legitimate commerce, and the CFO needs to do better. Getting the problem fixed, though, is doubtful. The long and short of it: the people that have the power to fix this just don't give a crap about gun owners.

That's between you and Santa Claus to sort out!

6 Business days so far on the registration certificate and still waiting...

Transfer applied November 10th. Transfer approved December 8th. Gun arrived by mail today. Still no certificate. Dear lord I am a criminal...

Does it pay to call in and (politely) check the progress?

IF there is an issue at the CFP with processing the application, calling in can usually resolve that issue. IF the application file is complete and it has been sent to the CFO, then calling the CFO usually doesn't do anything at all except annoy everyone involved, however once your application is more than 3 weeks old, it seems there is a common trend of your transfer having been JUST completed THAT morning, and you get your TN within 24 hours. So who knows.

It's probably because Ontario contains 1/3 of the country.

Interestingly while it does ALSO have about 1/3rd the number of registered firearms, there number of registered firearms in real numbers is only slightly less than double that of Alberta or BC, two of the provinces with the fastest transfer rates. And its not like Ontarios average transfer time is slightly higher, or even double the national average, or the two next busiest provinces. Its like 5-10x or higher. Volume alone does not come close to accounting for the difference.

Well maybe you will get something ELSE just to have something under the tree, AND you will get the gun.

What actually happens in a CFO office when a transfer request comes in? Anyone know? Check the recipient: valid RPAL (ok), done! What else? Should all be done electronically and cut out the 5 - 7 days in the mail issue.

Call goes to CFC where they initiate and continue the transfers. Then it goes to your provincial CFO for approval.

This was interesting. I initiated an AR transfer, and the guy said "just the receiver right?" and I said, "no has an upper on it". He started in that I was in violation of the law and that it was on record as a receiver only and that I am required to report it as a complete upper and lower...blah blah. Instead of arguing with him, I said "yes, I'm calling to say that 5 minutes ago I put an upper on this lower receiver, and I want to make a transfer."

I don't like to argue with government, I'm not going to win, but I may just call in and tell them that I took the parts off of all my AR's and they are just receivers now. I can see them come calling for "complete guns" when the confiscation starts. I plan to only hand over stripped receivers. I have never heard of this "required to report it as a complete gun stuff". I know "never ask legal questions on a forum" but honestly, in Canada there is no place to call and ask for answers to legal firearm questions, as everyone just gives a different answer. You should have seen the runaround when I asked for specs for building a "gun vault". Yeesh. [/tinfoil hat]

Ontario to Ontario transfer for a pistol.

Initiated Nov 24th by seller with buyer calling CFO back Nov 27th
Transfer notice received Dec 15th

2 weeks and 4 days!

Received the email from the CFO yesterday Dec 20th. 13 business days. 2 days shy of three weeks. Not too bad. Probably get it after Xmas, now that all of the Type 81s have gone out, I hope..
