Ontario Transfer Wait Times?

There is no question the backlog story is a lie. The Ontario government, beholden as they are to public service unions, would be only too happy to add to the staffing roll at the CFO if this was really the problem - afterall, more union positions equal more future Liberal voters.

We need to demand equity in the way the federal CFP is administered by the provinces.

The problem here is that our overlords would be more than happy to have everybody in the country subjected to Ontario's abysmal approval times in the interest of "equity of service"...if you could call what CFOs do, a "service".

Talked to the CFO today. Waiting on a restricted transfer from a business. I'm on my 12 business day. They said "15 business days". Then it will be approved. You have 3 more days to wait.
Thanks for calling.

Waiting more than 3 weeks on 2 restricted from the same seller. Several calls to CFO. Mysterious hang ups while on hold and then some stupid joke about being in Ontario. If I did my job like they do, I would be on welfare.

The service standard is 10 business days. If they aren't meeting this standard, file a complaint with the Ombudsman of Ontario and watch your transfer be approved the following business day. Make sure to ask the CFO what the service standard is and remind the Ombudsman that they are continually unable to meet this service standard. Remind the Ombudsman that the service standard is an upset limit of how long it should take. They should aim to have these done in less than ten business days and they should be staffed accordingly.

Ask me how I know. Not my first rodeo. Complaining on an online forum certainly does nothing.

Someone posted a quote a while back that the service standard is 30 days I believe. I checked the Ombudsman's website, and they have no jurisdiction of the CFO's office. Screwed, are we.

What are you talking about? Stop spreading misinformation and hearsay.

The Ontario Ombudsman does oversee the Chief Firearms Office as the CFO is actually part of the OPP. A government organization in this province cannot operate without civilian oversight. I've complained against the CFO's office to the Ombudsman before, and they got my transfer approved on the 11th business day, the day after they received my complaint.

4 weeks for my last one. Transfer started Feb. 5, just got the approval paper yesterday in the mail.

So frustrating!!! It's even worse when you're waiting for a particularly expensive piece.

OK,

I was just told that they were processing registrations after the date that mine was initiated??? So where is mine? "Sometimes there are special circumstances". Should I be concerned, I asked. "No".

I'm still concerned.

Might as well join the conversation, in Ontario and currently waiting for a few guns to be released. Right now still about 3 weeks, just can't understand why the wait. I can understand maybe the very first gun you buy a week waiting period or so but even then I don't get it because you have a PAL/RPAL so you have been given "permission" to purchase a firearm. When you already have a safe full of firearms it makes no sense that you still have to wait.

Stared Feb13 went thru Mar 7 for my latest one for private transfer. Like a sucker for punishment I bought another today from a dealer. So we shall see.

Worst was seven weeks from Alberta auction to Ontario last May-June.

Had one take 3 weeks from a FLGs

then 1 week from an Ontario Auction

and now back to 3+ weeks waiting on an ON to ON private sale...............sigh......thought the trend was improving.............

makes you want to buy a non restricted just to feel like a normal human again able to get things they pay for..........
