Ontario Turkey hunting. Anyone getting exicited yet?

Tons of gobbles. Heard several far off shots. Nothing came in to the field I had permission for.
I think the turkeys stripped the field clean because there were 15-25 (3 good > 8" toms) in it everyday for the past month and a half and then last week they moved to the next field which someone else hunts. I'm pretty sure he missed one today. I saw him walking back to the farm empty handed after I heard him shoot.

If it wasn't for my exam tomorrow I'd go back out tonight.

Peterborough was quiet this am. I heard a few shots but not one gobble. I've been watching a huge tom following a lone hen around for a while now but this morning she was alone. Had her inside of 6 feet from me and she hung around but I had to head to work and couldn't wait for the tom to show.

One question though.... I've never once had to fire more than one shot at a bird. What's with all the guys shooting 2 and 3 rounds???????

"Missed Missed Missed.... GOT HIM! .... well what's left of him" loool

Semi autos to the rescue!

No gobbling today, saw one hen cut across the field about 250 meters away. No tom spotted... Hopefully next weekend will be better...

Cheers

Buddy from camp just got his today in Brockville, sent it to me through his cell hence no "hero shot".
Man...can't wait till tomorrow when I head out to camp.

Apparently, the Federal #5's hit with such authority that he not only killed the bird but also blew off the tom's camo hat...:p

Heard 2 toms first thing this am, never saw them, didnt seem too interested in my calling. 1 hen came in at 30 yards. 1 coyote at 75 yards circled me. Pretty quiet.

I saw lots of strutting birds, but I am not able to hunt until Saturday which sucks. We had to wait for birds to clear out of our field before we could set up our blind yesterday. Atleast 6 gobblers in the area we are hunting.

Went out today, sat in the swamp for a few hours lots of rain. I dont have my Turkey permit yet, so I was hunting Coyote. My buddy was hunting Turkey. Anyways as it figures I scared a large one up which jumped up in front of me. My buddy was off taking a piss or something and never saw it. That was the highlight of the day.

Lots of rain today.

Heard lots of gobbling, cutting and yelping this morning. I'm thinking there might be 2 toms on the farm I'm hunting. Couldn't get anything to come in to me as just way too many hens there as well. Had to move spots due to farm work, and a tom spotted me before I spotted him. Got a new spot all picked out for next trip out there. They should walk right by me based on the tracks and scouting. Didn't hear any shots in the area at all.

No worries, near Carleton Place. Did see a BIG tom on the way home, in the field 'in front of' where the NRCan labs are along the 417.

Cheers

Oh Neat so you're hunting the southwest end outskirts.

I want to head up to my buddies cottage touching algonquin park this weekend, and I have a friend with land on the east end (past rockland I think).

Both landowners have told me they have seen turkeys on the land, but getting a firm "YES you can hunt" has been hard. Its always "Yea I guess you could; we'll be in touch and figure it out" at some point before the season. I hate that. I just want to get out there!

Lots of gobbles today. 4 guys in our group, 3 toms down (17lbs was the biggest). I'm the only one who didn't connect, today but my buddy did manage to call 2 huge toms into me. Too bad they stayed in the stuff too thick for me to shoot through...

One...and done. :D My 1st Turkey.

19.5 lbs, 9" beard, 1" spurs. Shot him this morning at about 6:30.

He came into the decoys with 2 hens...1st turkey ever shot at the farm.
