Hey..I live in Ottawa and we're seemingly surrounded by Turkeys. I was out last weekend to Kempville, to take the Turkey course, then to Carp for the gun show. I saw 7 on Saturday alone. Even in the western part of the city they can be seen all over the place. I saw one today at the side of the 416 about 20k south of Ottawa. Now, come season opener, they'll likely flee..
I sighted in my full choke Wingmaster 870 today with both Remington and Winchester 2 3/4 inch, 1 1/2 oz, No. 4 Turkey loads. Holy c##p..
1. At 20 m the pattern is OK, at 25 Its dropping and going left ( at least 5 pellets to the head). 30 m is the max I can shoot with that load, with that gun. I have to noticeably compensate up and right ! I was off more with the Winchester ammo so I'm going with the Remington "Premier Magnum,"#4 shot, 1 1/2 oz loads; and
2. I now feel like I also went a couple of rounds with Mike Tyson ! At the top of this thread one guy said they kill at both ends ! He's not kidding ! I fired around 10 of these little monsters today and let me tell you, they kick like a frigging mule.
That being said, I'm glad I did it. Otherwise I'd have probably missed anything past 20m. Anyone else in the same boat, or have any advice ? I'm headed out on the 7th of May, south of Ottawa.
