Do up your Tac-Sol 22lr kit for open-22lr when you shoot steel and put the 9mm slide back on the Spartan for IPSC Classic?

If he want's a specific "steel gun" then it doesn't matter if it's a single stack or double. Fast reloads don't exist in speed steel stuff, so i can understand him wanting a single stack. Makes sense cost wise.

well i can but its not ideal, im sure ill end up shooting open in matches for fun once in a while.

i wish we could get those scandium frames separate, id use one for the build

Not a huge disadvantage with a good mag well. But you are right still easier with a double stack. Although if you have smaller hands a SS might be better for grip and control.

That is why I got a Caspian frame - fits my smaller hands well. SV's newer aluminium frames are nice too.

Yes I know of at least one local shooter who got rid of his double stack and built a SS Open gun for that very reason.

And his reloads are just as quick if not quicker than everyone elses.

You can name one or two. I said training and practice can potentially make one as fast as the average decent double stack reload, but you are naming that one or two versus the majority of double stack shooters.

Yes, some shooters can beat open shooters with a production gun. But you're talking about a difficult task and the rare individual.

Are you seriously denying that indexing a double stack mag into a gaping hole is easier than indexing a single stack into a thin one? A straight mag into a small hole vs. a tapered mag into a large hole?

If they make ICE mag wells for SS those are awesome. I think you'd be able to throw them in from the 3 point line!!!!!!!!

Dawson has a "wide"magwell for SS, same as "Tech Well" mag well, double check the spelling, not 100% of the brand.

may want to just find a smith in the states you like and get a gun from them and pay the $250 to import it, wont really make it any more expensive than having one built up here

I liked the idea of buying the parts at the pace I could afford (while still feeding my current open rig) and then dropping the $ on the smithing when everything is collected. Total price would be cheaper then a completed gun since I would do the minor stuff.

Who does the 250$ import? I've never seen sub 300$ import (haven't looked all that hard either)

If you could find a CZ Champion in 9mm, that would rock. A friend has one, trigger is fantastic, great fit and finish and very reliable. Add a red dot and there you go. For light steel loads, if I was setting up a gun, I would use a CZ; Shadow,.. or whatever I could get my hands on. Add a single action trigger, polish and tune the internals, cut a slot in the slide; add 3-4 ports in the barrel and a mount with a C-More. Short, light, reliable, and a comfortable grip I am familiar with. And to add to the list of pluses, I can do the work myself, and I end up staying within a very modest budget. I would not hesitate asking Dlask or Cape Custom to build me a single stack either if that was the route I was going.

prophet river does imports for $250, if you are just looking for a backup then might also want to check out the brian enos forum and grabbed a used open gun for way bellow anything up here

i ended up getting an old but barely used SS open gun from someone who was upgrading to double stack after a long absence from the sport, going to re barrel to 9 and re spring and tweak it from there if it needs anything
