Open sight at 200M with SKS

But generally speaking, yes. Solid mounts for SKS are few and far between. Anything that mounts on the front gas-tube, rear site mount or rear dust cover hardly qualifies as "solid."

A good optic, solidly mounted to the receiver (drilled, tapped etc), fed with quality ammo is going to make an SKS more accurate.

I understand and ive been through the whole ####ty dust cover mount issues but my point is that you can d&t a good mount to the SKS receiver and install the best scope and rings in the world and the end of the day you still have a Scoped SKS;)

More accurate does not equal very accurate, that is why I was implying the sights were not the only things contributing to its reputation for less then stellar accuracy.

rollingrock: I'll take some pictures next time I go, but I'll have to make it for 100 meters because I doubt I'd be able to hit paper at 200m without a scope. It may just be my eyesight, but next time I go to the range I'm going to test the groupind properly.
I'll post some when I get some.

This is getting off track a bit........however....
I've been trying to get just one of these fellows that can shoot 2"/100m groups with their stock SKS to come out and show me how it's done....
I'll even make it easier and more interesting, I'll give you $20 if you can put 10 rounds into an 8" bull at 100m standing position........should be no problem for the average SKS commando....:)

Heh, Hitzy bring your $20 out to alberta and I will spend it on beer for us after
I take it from you! :D

At 100m I can consistantly ding the 6" gong at one of our local ranges with my Chinese sks. Standing position, iron sights.
