Open sights on a rifle

By having open sights on a rifle does it interfere with a mounted scope?
With the scope mounted on the rifle, will I see the open sights when viewing through the scope?

Thanks,

It depends on the type of sights as well as scope mounts. My Ruger has fold down rear sights so no problems there. On my 99c I have high rise scope mounts so you can look thru the scope, above the iron sights, or you can look under the scope thru the mounts and use the iron sights. Sorry it's not a simple answer!

Altec,
Like hitch.bd mentioned.. you need to define the type of sight as well as mounts you would like to use. I suggest going to your local gun shop and find the right setup for yourself. Your options are endless...

"...does it interfere with a mounted scope?..." Depends on where the sights are on the rifle, the scope and the height of the rings. The see through rings, hitch.bd mentions tend to put the scope too high.

I have sights on a few rifles with scopes. The scopes are 40mm leupolds, mounted with low leupold mounts. Some rifles, the rear sight would be in the way of the scope though.

The only time you see the sight in the scope picture is on very low power and it isn't obtrusive. When you turn the scope usually to four power or higher, the sight goes away. I usually hunt and shoot with my scope on five power so it isn't a big deal for me.

I've bought used guns with the see through mounts that are very high, and I don't like the feel of looking so high to see through the scope. You might though, but try them somewhere before you buy them.

It's no problem to see the iron sights throught the scope, as long as they don't interfere with the crosshairs. With a scope like the Leopould 1-4X variX2, any sights will be seen due to it's field of view.
