Hello folks.

I currently own a Norinco 1911, which I've enjoyed, and I have put some time and upgrades into, but I find myself wanting more. I work at Sears, and my store is closing at the end of this week, so rather than outright purchase a new 1911 I am looking at potentially selling off some of my other firearms to fund the purchase.

The Colt Competition model:

All would be in .45acp, I cast and reload for that already.

Does anyone have experience with all three? I'm curious as to accuracy and reliability, if any of these feed various bullet profiles better than another, and this may sound odd, but if any of the three have a proper leade in the rifling. My Norinco has no leade and its rough of my cast and powder coated projectiles.

Here's a picture of my Norinco for ####s and giggles.

Thanks in advance guys.

The S&W is the superior pistol if you don't care about their external extractor.

Honestly I'm not a huge fan of the external extractor just from a cosmetic stand point. The forward slide serations and the fish scaling in general don't turn my crank either. Visually I find it the least appealing of the three pistols, it just seems like a well made gun for the money and I like that the front strap in checkered. I keep skateboard tape on the front strap of my Norc, I like it aggressive.

Out of those choices the S&W woudl be my pick, but it’s a tough call between that and the colt. Both will be accurate, the S&W has front strap checkering which is a big feature to me and I like stainless and front slide serrations. Personally I’m also a fan of the external extractors.

BTW, Prarie Gun Traders has an “excellent condition” S&W 1911-E Series for $895. That’s a good deal.

The Colt will hold its value far better. I'm not a fan of the Smith's external extractor. The Ruger would be a distant third.

Yet, glock are made of plastic and mim parts and are the most durable pistols ever made.

Still a 1911 with plastic parts is unusual, all good 1911 are all steel, try to find a plastic part in a LB an EB or a NH even a R1 or a Ruger, this is the main reason i dont own a STI... A 1911 is not a Glock... JP.

I agree with this: from the experiences I have seen the Colt will be a better 1911 of the three. Sig are fine but the "Sig Profile" slide is different enough that holsters and a few other accessories don't fit.

In essence the 1911 platform is 106 years old and on "gen 2" (Gen 1 the 1911A1 and Gen 2 the 1911 Enhanced) while the Glock is 35 years old (model 17) and on "gen 5". I have nothing against Glock other than reserving the ability to say that the 1911 has 71 years on Glock and three less "generations".

At that price range I would go Colt (or Springfield Armoury) for no really good reason but inclined to agree with HC that the Colt will retain its value. They will all probably shoot equally well.

I wouldn't shy away from an STI, like the Trojan, with a plastic mainspring. Easy and cheap swap if it bothers you. STIs are competition proven guns and have gotten the attention where it counts. That said, Trojans are getting pricy and there are a lot of good guns in that range.

Because you're a brand whore. A plastic trigger shoe or frame doesn't affect the performance and durability of the pistol. I respect your opinion to be a brand snob but the reality is sti pretty much dominate the standard and classic division in ipsc. Guns that go though 10 000+ rounds per season with minimal maintenance. Original grip and trigger shoe. They might not be super fancy but they are build to last.
