When I first got my RPAL, I wanted a Colt SAA. My first gun was the Uberti Elpatron and it was all that I expected. But I knew that ,what I really wanted was the real deal. I recently sold the El Patron and took a beautiful Cimmeron Evil Roy , on trade. The Cimeron was unfired, but I knew I had to have the Colt.
Anyway, today an opportunity arose for me to aquire a Gen 3 Colt SAA .45 LC. ( thanks to a great CGN,er).

But I had to sell a couple of handguns to do it.
I'm now super freaking pumped :).
So tell me, what will I find different about the Colt? What's better? What's not?

I really don't care as I now have a Colt. But I'm still curious to know.

Next on my list is an antique Colt SAA .44-40

What is different between the El Patron and the Colt....a rearing horse in the grip and you being out $1,500 or so. The sights will be smaller on the Colt. Welcome to the world of marketing.

Owning a real Colt SAA is special, mine is still unfired, sometimes i just take it from the safe and look at it....

In all case it's special, even at 3K, i feel that it's worth every penny...
Congrat on your aquisition... JP.

Bob , your math don't quite add up. I paid $739 + $30 shipping = $769 + 13% hst. =$110 + 769= $879. Colt cost me $1900 .
$1900- $879 =$1021. So not $1500.
Now if you take in depreciation / appreciation. Uberti loses 10% a year where as Colt gains 20% per year.
So in say 5 years my Uberti will be worth ,approximately $650.
However, in five years my Colt will be worth approximately $4400.

Anyway see what I'm getting at :):)

Oh, did I say , it's a Colt.

And I'm just kidding around, by the way:)

Thanks, They are nice, I'm afraid mine is going to get shot, lots:)

Only a Colt SAA is a Colt SAA, all the rest are just clones. It costs extra, but the investment will eliminate that yearning and faint regret that comes from owning a reasonable facsimile rather than the real thing.

That's exactly the way I felt. Kinda like ,any port will do in a storm.

Nothing wrong with the "Original". When compared side by side with my now gone Taylor's & Co. Smoke Wagon Deluxe in .357 and El Patron in .45 I found that the tuned Ubertis had better triggers. Action and timing was nearly equal but the Colts had a slight edge, finish was also better on the Colt and case hardening of the Ubertis don't come close to the Colts.

All in all the tuned italians shot a bit better than the Colts but had given an action job on the Colts it would probably be a wash.

I finally kept the .45 El Patron with a 5 1/2" tube and sold all my Colts in favor of keeping a consecutive pair of STI Texicans, those two are true collectibles that only see a few rounds each year since only 67 were manufactured entirely by Hartford Armory on a very unique manufacturing process. Coincidentally Hartford Armory use to have contracts to provide parts for Colt and various hi end firearms manufacturers.

What's one of those worth? Ballpark.

When I purchased my El Patron in Dec 2013 $700, the store also had two Brandnew gen3 Colt SAA ,.357 and .45 LC.
Both were $1359 , I didn't have the extra cash at the time.:).
I seen a new Colt SAA .357 listed for $2000 recently.

Very tough to put a value on these two since only 67 were made from Nov. 2007 till Apr. 2009 and very rarely seen for sale on the used market. I've only seen two for sale in the US in 2013 and 2014. They were used in VG+/Exc. condition. One guy wanted $7000 for his with stag grips on it and the other $3700 with a second set of Elk grips as I recall. Pretty expensive when you could buy a brand new Colt SAA for around $1200-$1300 a few years ago.

I remember that they were selling for $1400 up here when they were introduced by Freedom Venture in 2008-2009.

Ok so if you spend $2K for a Colt and put in a safe and every once in awhile you take it out and then put it back I guess they are a good buy. If you want a SAA to shoot and enjoy buy an El Patron Uberti or their slightly less expensive Cattleman and shoot the hell out of it. If a part breaks you can order a replacement from Brownells under the Section "Colt's Parts".
