Opinions on caliber for coyote?

I am looking into a gun for coyote hunting. Am leaning towards a .243 with a smaller grain bullet to also have capability for deer hunting, but looking for opinions from those who have experience coyote hunting. I am also wanting to make sure to keep hide and fur damage to a minimum. Thanks

The .243 will be a hammer on coyotes, but stay off the shoulder if you want to save fur.

Meat waste has a lot more to do with bullet construction, and where you shoot than how much energy the cartridge has. Shoot a deer behind the front legs with a heavily constructed bullet designed for big bear and you might wish you had more disruption.

I can shoot two identical deer, hitting one with 4000 ft/lbs and another with 2000, and waste twice as much with the lower powered cartridge.

If you really want to minimize blood shot meat, shoot a heavy bullet at 1500 fps.
300 grain, 4570, soft point, 80 yards, vitals, toppled last week's 12 point moose.

It is dependent on the size if the animal.
Coyote at 200 yards yes, 1000 yards, well what do you think ?

Take some time and read the free papers on the Hornady site, it's cute interesting
At a mile, my 6BR is still over 900fps. Would you stand in front of a 105gr Berger going 900fps? If it will kill you, it will kill a coyote, AND a deer.

Unless you're in AB or SK coyote fur isn't worth the effort and even with current prices I doubt it is even in AB or SK so I say 22-250, and it drops Deer like they were hit by Lightning. Of course this assumes the legality of a 22 Centerfire on Deer in the place you live.

Where did I say that? What distance? How is that different from any other cartridge? Better yet, what experience do you have with the 243?
Enough to know go /no go based on my barrel length bullet type, weight, distance and approximate game size.

My whole point to all this is that people just say 243 is fine for deer without really thinking about all the details.
