opinions on my barrel

Lol....$25 min purchase....ordered a barreled receiver as well in case the bedding job isn't the answer.

So, I'm thinking of going to the range tomorrow to try out the bedding job and see if it shoots tighter. (its been a week of curing)
I should take a couple of fouling shots first right? Used wipeout in the barrel so its clean. Then try a couple of 4-5 shot groups.

Ok, so today I went to the range with my 6.5x55 after the bedding job.

Shot 2 fouling shots (after doing the "wipeout" thing to clean the barrel) and then set up at 100 yrds. The ammo I used was Yugoslavian "Century" 139gr SP shells of unknown age.

The first 5 shot group was fired at 1 bullet about every 5 minutes to allow the barrel to cool. (It was about plus 3 to 4 Celsius out today, a beautiful sunny day to shoot.)

Seeing it was a fairly tight group but not what I expected, I tried the "business card between the barrel and forestock trick" and then shot 6 more rounds spacing them out time wise. 1 shot was a flyer so I didn't count it.
I will say I am glad I did the bedding job. I will do another small bedding job on the fore end to tighten the barrel further.
Thanks to all who contributed input

Some of that Century brand 6.5x55mm ammo was actually made by Norma and if so is first rate ammo. You can tell if it is by a little NP mark on the primer.

No one seems to have mentioned that the scope sits very high off the action. The slightest canting of the rifle will throw shots all over the place.

Ok, point taken sailor. And what you say is true to a point. I've been shooting since the mid 80s tho, I make 110% sure my scopes are mounted exactly straight.
