About 20 yrs ago I had a scope similar to that, old metal tube, Weaver, put it on an AR15 to play with Chucks.... not the best choice but a heck of alot of fun!!
And yes I have a Deerfield, and absolutley love it !!! I'm acctually thinking of camoing it in a woodland or realtree type patern. Haven't committed tio that one yet.
44 Mag is great on deer, best one I had, with Marlin lever, preDeerfield days, was a yearling buck on the dead run down the trail I happened to be walking up, (chased by numerous 30 cal. ) put a 240 gr JHP in the right shoulder and pushed it over like it was hit by a frieght train, from about 50-60 yrds.
Down fall, 4 rd mags are not really ergonomically freindly for quick reloads, especially with gloves. (10 rds would be fun!!) (who said that "I" didn't say anything)
I acctually have found that an old M1 Carbine 15 rds mag pouch (dual) will hold two mags nicely , I run my sling through the belt loops and have two mag accessable at all times without fumbling in pockets. Makes it a favorite for up north, grabbing it and jumping from the vehicle to have a look at things, with 8 rds and no fumbling.
