opinions on TRW m-14

Isreali connection ?

My "TRW" is/was the " hands down the Most accurate stock battle rifle I have ever owned "!! I hope she still is , as I can't legally transport ,a legally owned & acquired 12(3) as of a few years ago , & my bsmt's way too small.
Mine was an import from Isreal , came with an Israeli marked cleaning kit .Have NEVER had a hiccup with this rifle , & will be one of those "NEVER PART" with guns
---------------------------------------------------
So, Is there anyone out there who could elaborate with more details on the Israeli connection?

Tweaked a friend's TRW. Scoped and benched, with quality ball, it would shoot 1 1/4 moa; 3 moa with IVI.
Its parts are now installed on a Norc. receiver, the original has been retained to preserve 12(3) status.

An ex-IDF HRA M14 is hands down one of the most accurate military rifles I've ever owned.Ironically I was serving a long tour in the Middle East back in the late '80s when an ad for them appeared in the old Gunrunner.I had a letter back to my brother- in -law to buy one ASAP.At about the same time I was seeing minty looking M14s being toted by IDF reserve troopies.

I had some very nice ones back in the day. Funny thing though is that I loved the synthetic stocks and could by them for about $10. Everyone thought I was a wacko for wanting plastic over the wood stocks. funny how times have changed, huh?:)

Ok... this will make some of you wet your pants. I went to Israel to look through the KolDani military warehouse of was stock "Sibat" the civillian arm of IDF wanted to thin out. This was in 1987. I walk in the door of a Indiana Jones warehouse and see "Air racked rifles" Thousands! HK -G3's M-14. FAL's
and AK's of all sorts! The M-14's were both wood and plastic. Most were Mint to Excellent. All had a small 0 engraved by manufacturer name to show they had been zero'ed in and ready to be handed out for battle. They were all cleaned with a very light coat of fime machine oil. These were emergency wepons for quick rollout. They let me examine them for about 5 hours. About
10% had the Full Auto lever in place. Later in meetings at a long table, they asked me for the prices I wanted to pay. I cannot remember all the details but I think I started at $50 each for the M-14's and we settled for $75. I had to take in lots of 1000. Sigh! I have to stop now as my nipples are getting hard.

"Wet my pants"? ---why, I can't even see the keyboard for the tears ! $75.00 each !! no wonder the federali's:kickInTheNuts: are so afraid of them, they're protecting us good citizens from the scourge of such cheap firearms !! -------------------- WOW! ---& Thanks

Years ago,There were a few stories on the float regarding the "TRW" -M-14's that they were hand picked , & slated to be, or used for the IDF sniper program, prior to being sold off. -------
Truth or Rumor ??

They still use the M-14 as an issue. Mostly for second line troops and guard duty.
You still see them being carried from time to time. Yes... in the early 90's I saw several being used with commerical scopes and Leathermans (probably US surplus). The IDF also
liked the TRW... but I cannot verify they hand picked any. I think the IDF just shot them and picked the best groupers for their snipers. Still reaching out and touching people is my guess.

Huge quantities of firearms and ammunition were seized and captured in Lebanon in 1982 by the IDF (Operation Peace for Galilee). My Vz-58, Lebanese Army marked G3, Chinese Type 56-1, and Winchester M14 all made the trip from Israel to the UK then Canada.

The Lebanese Army were also equipped with M14 rifles. When that country hemorrhaged in the 1970's, these weapons were being employed by any and everyone.

The M14 I had was a mint Winchester, made in November 1962. Whether it was originally IDF or LA was unknown. It was a great shooter, but like all other CA's, became a safe queen when the law changed. Traded it off a few years ago...unfortunately. Now have a Springfield Armory M1A NM.

Here are some pics:

rchMontreal is historically correct. A large amount of what I saw in KolDani was from Lebanon. Alot of the M-14 tho were from emergancy shipments direct from the USA when things were looking bad in Yom Kippor war. Your Winchester proably came from US directly to Israel. All the HKG-3's were from LA, some marked others not. Funny... out of about 500 imported then into Canada I had to remove small bits of shrapnel from the plastic stocks. The Shrap was bits of copper just stuck into the plastic. If you ever see a G3 with scars on the stock ... that is what it is. We had to pull it out to avoid cuts.
Not from a bomb.. bits were too small... maybe a couple of granades thrown into the armory?

i remember my friend brought some IDF rifles into his store he must have got 2nds they were beat to rat sh%t..i wasn't impressed ..he also had some from South Africa with local cammo paint jobs but what do you want for $250.00 bitd ..i still like FN's better

"...make this gun from prohib to restricted..." Nope. Once an MG, always an MG applies in Canada as well as the States. If you don't have the 12(3) permit now, you can't get one. The rifle is prohibited by characteristic, not by name.

I still have my late production Israeli FN-FAL. Always had an admiration for this rifle since my time in the service.

It was part of Israel's war reserves, purchased directly from FN by Israel. All late type features, para flash hider, flat sided receiver with no lightning milling, sand cut bolt carrier, full body cover, fixed button type cocking handle, wood butt, plastic pistol grip, plastic hand guards with bipod indents. Unissued condition. All the mags were IDF sourced.

Wonderful piece of kit. Gathers dust at the back of the safe. :(

Hey, LA Cowboy, it is the identical rifle. I didn't think twice when I saw this rifle sitting in the rack at Ontario Sporting Supplies, many moons ago.

I had the 1928A1 Thompson, MP40, MP41, MG34, MG42, Bren Mk.II, couple of Stens, G3, Vz58, along with AR15 SP1, HK 93, M1 Carbines, and too many others to remember.

Over the years have been trading them for non-prohib firearms.

I truly enjoyed the day when my mates and I would load up our 20 or 30 round magazines, go to the range and shoot all day. We were not menaces to society, played by the book and did everything legally.

For my adherence to the law and good citizenship, I was rewarded with bans, confiscations and prohibitions. Nuff said.

Amen. Back then fun was measured by the size of your trunk and how many truely fun guns you could pack into it.... Do you feel any safer now that they "Saved" us all from Bad guns. Now we only own "Good guns"

I sold hundreds of the Imports to OSS and another in Swastika? Sounded like same company but one guy was Frank and the other was ???. Hey! That was a fun trip down Memory Lane. Where did I park my car Dude???

The leatherwood 3x9 ART scopes were israeli contracted and not surplus. I have some of them which I bought along with M14 rifles and israeli 308 98k sniper rifles. The ART scopes have aluminum mounts and the scope tubes have israeli contract numbers stamped on them. The US contract ART's have steel M14 mounts. The israeli's thought that the aluminum would stand up better in the desert. The contract was a very small order for leatherwood.
